Description

The Senior Manager of Delegation & Sports Services is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all aspects of World Games and above Program level competition preparation and delegation services for the Special Olympics USA National Team (SO USA). In addition, this position will facilitate plans and preparations for North American Programs attending World Games and above Program level competition. This position will strive to strengthen quality sports development across North America as well as assist with competition management for Regional and National competitions, including USA Games. This position will be critical in ensuring adherence of the Special Olympics vision and mission statement.

Essential Functions

Manage and oversee all aspects of Special Olympics USA National Team for all events above the Program level, including but not limited to, World Games, Unified Cup, or other similar events. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop short and long-term planning and infrastructure.
  • Oversee the selection of delegation leadership structure including the Head of Delegation and additional roles such as communications/PR, medical, sport management, special events, and others.
  • Develop selection process of all delegation members including the quota request and allocation process.
  • Work collaboratively with SONA Budget officer to create annual budgets, manage monthly budget reports, and track revenue.
  • Oversee logistics and operations (i.e. transportation, apparel and uniforms, equipment, warehousing, etc.).
  • Oversee all aspects of delegation leading the SO USA Management team in preparations including, fundraising, partner development, honored guest, family engagement and registration.
  • Manage all related meetings, conferences, events, and trainings linked to SO USA and Program participation in above Program level competition.
Create and maintain communication with all North American Programs regarding World Games and other above Program level events. Responsibilities include:
  • Oversee North America athlete quota request and distribution process.
  • Oversee North America selection criteria.
  • Serve as liaison to Local Organizing Committees as well as Special Olympics Sports department for all World Games/above Program level competition related issues.
  • Oversee information sharing and dissemination, timelines and deadlines, registration process, travel requirements, information gathering, etc.
  • Serve as a member of the Global Registration Team (GRT) for North America and appoint and collaborate with a second member from North America for the GRT.
Provide support and resources to all Programs within the SONA Region. Responsibilities include:
  • Oversee the tracking and recognition for the Sports Professional Development certification process.
  • Oversee the administrative coordination of USLC Sports committee and Sport Resource Teams.
  • Oversee and manage all communications, including Monthly calls, for SONA Sports Program staff.
Other responsibilities include:
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of USA Games and Regional Competitions with a focus on Project Management and transfer of knowledge.
  • Assist in developing technical and event management resources to improve the quality of events for SONA Programs.
  • Assist with the development of infrastructures, partnerships and implement strategies that promote and grow assigned sports.
Prerequisites for Success
  • Demonstrable Project Management experience. Preference to candidates with Smartsheet or similar project management software experience.
  • Experience managing dynamic budgets and financial reporting.
  • BA or BS College Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Special Olympics experience or similar non-profit.
  • Experience in event planning with expertise in team building, planning, budgeting, and fund raising and sponsorship.
  • Excellent computer, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent time management and leadership skills, ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Proven leadership working with volunteers in key leadership roles.
  • Willingness and ability to travel independently.
