As a Land Technician /Cable Engineer supporting the Department of Energy, you will be trusted to work on the Cable Plant and be responsible for installation and documentation of new and/or updated Inside Plant cable infrastructure to include conduit, cable trays, copper, coax, fiber and all associated elements. In this role, a typical day will include:Collaborating with Department of Energy to Analyze, administer, and maintain telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure Analyzes, administers, and maintains telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure.Our Cable Technician is responsible for tasks assigned by Coordinators in connection with service orders and repair activities related to Category 6 cabling, Voice over IP networks (VOIP), and fiber optic cabling infrastructure.Dress, terminate and test cables and components, Ability to work with power tools and laddersAbility to work well with others and communicate with supervisors. Computer literate with basic Networking SkillsInterprets service orders, circuit diagrams, and electrical schematicsTests, locates, installs, and repairs cabling infrastructure associated with trouble calls, and performs routine maintenanceVerifies work order information and receipt of all necessary equipment and informationVerifies service by testing installed cabling; identifying, correcting, or escalating problemsWell versed in the use of network cabling test equipment including network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs and fiber power meters.Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specificationsMaintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network back-up procedures; updating documentationMaintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assignedParticipates in special projects as requiredIdentify, track and remove abandoned cable, and keep cable neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety standardsDress, terminate and test cables and components including CAT6 and fiber optic cabling.Ability to work with power tools and laddersAbility to work well with others and communicate with supervisorsComputer literate with basic Networking SkillsYour success will be measured through successful delivery of cable infrastructure and related projectsWHAT YOU LL NEED:3-5 years of related telecommunications experience.Top Secret ClearanceStrong customer service experience is highly preferredTechnical skillsMust be familiar with TIA/EIA and BICSI rules, regulations, and standards in reference to cable infrastructure.Candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively to personnel of various expertise levels. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary.
