Job Summary:

The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for mechanical construction projects. This includes HVAC, plumbing, piping, and other mechanical systems. The role requires thorough analysis of project specifications, blueprints, and other documents to accurately predict the cost, time, materials, and labor required for successful project completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and Analyze Project Documents:
  • Interpret blueprints, specifications, and project plans.
  • Identify and quantify all cost factors, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure all project details and specifications are thoroughly understood.
  • Prepare Detailed Estimates:
  • Develop comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for mechanical systems.
  • Utilize estimating software and tools to prepare bids and proposals.
  • Create detailed takeoffs and breakdowns for materials and labor costs.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders:
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure alignment on project requirements.
  • Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gain a full understanding of project scope and requirements.
  • Risk Assessment and Management:
  • Identify potential risks and challenges associated with the project.
  • Develop strategies to mitigate risks and address potential issues proactively.
  • Cost Control and Budgeting:
  • Monitor and manage project budgets throughout the estimating process.
  • Provide value engineering options to optimize costs and enhance project value.
  • Assist in the preparation of project budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain detailed records of all estimates, including assumptions, calculations, and sources.
  • Prepare and present estimate summaries and reports to management and clients.
  • Update and maintain estimating databases and tools for accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of [X] years of experience in mechanical estimating, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping.
