Description

Examples of Duties

Assignments may include specific activities or policy issues primarily related to transit planning, mobility management and commuting options including:
  • Collects, summarizes, and analyzes data including drawing inferences necessary for projects.
    1. Performs statistical analysis of data and prepares interpretive reports.
    2. Maintains various databases.
    3. Develops data profiles and reports.
    4. Prepares interpretive maps for reports, presentations, and meetings.
    5. Assists with survey preparation, execution, and analysis.
    6. Conducts field surveys and collects relevant data from the field.
    7. Conducts general research on transportation issues via the internet and other sources.
    8. Collects transportation related data from the field.
  • Assists with data analyses for annual reporting on transit in the region.
  • Assists with maintenance and implementation of the Regional Mobility Plan and TDM strategic Plan.
  • Assists with MORPC Gohio Commute Program and Transit Supportive Infrastructure Program.
  • Assist with traffic count data processing.
  • Assists with meeting and event preparation and participates in meetings with MORPC members.
  • Provides information to members, staff, and the general public.

The ideal candidate should be able to conduct independent research, be able to gather, analyze, and summarize data, and compile comprehensive reports or other deliverables. Must have ability to read and interpret maps, graphs, charts, and aerial photography.

Typical Qualifications

This position requires strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and organizational skills. Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is essential. Good statistical analytical abilities are desired. Experience with ArcGIS software is helpful. This is a team-oriented position, although the applicants must possess the ability to work independently. A strong work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills are a must.

Acceptable Experience and Training:

Applicant must be currently enrolled in a college or university, with preference given to an upper class of a four-year degree or graduate student. Fields related to Engineering, Transportation, City and Regional Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, or Economics are preferred. A combination of training, experience, and education equivalent to this will be considered.

Supplemental Information

Estimated start date is June, 2024, with the potential to continue throughout completion of degree program. Interns typically are employed up to 20 hours per week during semesters with classes and up to 40 hours per week during academic breaks.
