Position: Telephone IT Technician

Clearance Required: Secret Clearance

Employment: Full Time

Hire Type: 6 month contract-to-hire

Work Location: Joint Base Andrews, Maryland

Salary Range: 65K-78K/yr (contingent on experience)

Must Haves:

  • Min. 2+ years of relevant experience (Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), Nortel MSL 100 for tier 2 and 3, analogue/digital (single/multi line phones), or Voice over Internet Protocol.
  • Security+ certified (if not certified, can receive contingent offer upon passing Security+ within 1-2 weeks)
  • Active Secret Clearance

Job Description:

Insight Global is seeking a Telephone IT Technician for a defense contracting firm at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. This telephone technician position provides maintenance and operational support for the 844th Communication Group (CG). This includes surveying, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and auditing physical connections utilized for telephone systems and ensuring all tickets are completed in accordance with the defined customer priority level.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide Tier 2 and 3 maintenance and operational support for telephony systems.
  • Maintain or create documentation of existing Copper circuits including ISDN, POTS, alarm, fax, elevator, or other systems.
  • Work with the Government Voice Engineer to maintain the copper infrastructure.
  • Maintain ISDN/POTS telephony architecture and supporting diagrams.
  • Trace, label, and maintain existing copper lines; coordinate with commercial service provider as needed.
  • Perform STIGs, MTOs, and other audits to ensure the Squadron complies with AF Standards.
  • Perform PMIs on CDNs using Local work cards in accordance with TO 00-5-1 and providing results/findings.
  • Create and update maintenance cutsheets to include phone numbers, copper cable, and copper pair information and the physical location on base.
  • Terminate cable on main distribution frame as needed.
  • Report and log deteriorating conditions of copper cabling as they are discovered.
  • Report when the saturation of infrastructure reaches 70%.
  • Ensure that all telephony interfaces with emergency service location information systems such as Configuration Accounting Information Retrieval System (CAIRS) are up to date with the correct detail for device location information.
  • Assist in identifying legacy devices and services and provide solutions or strategies in order to migrate analog and legacy digital services to IP based solutions in accordance with (IAW) SAF/CN directives.
