Job description

Our client is a local non-profit that's been around for 50+ years. They are currently seeking an experienced accounting & finance professional to join their team as a Controller.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the development, enhancement and/or ongoing management of the organization s financial reporting, accounting, auditing, data security/integrity, and compliance standards.

Oversee the activities of the Accounting Department; supervises and manages the accounting team.

Reconciles monthly statements for investment holdings; responsible for input of activity into general ledger.

Reviews monthly bank reconciliations prepared by staff.

Prepares monthly financial statements for organization and all partnerships.

Acts as financial liaison to Board Finance Committee and Board of Directors.

Responsible for management and coordination of annual audit process, to include preparation of all associated required materials and information

Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with regulations.

Responsible for processing remittances generated from payroll withholdings.

Prepare and analyze financial reports, budgets, and forecasts for presentation to senior management and the board of directors.

Monitor cash flow, investments, and financial performance indicators, identifying areas for improvement and cost-saving opportunities.

Coordinate audits and tax filings, liaising with external auditors and regulatory authorities as necessary.

Evaluate and optimize accounting systems and software to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.

Provide guidance and support to departmental managers on budget planning, expense management, and grant compliance.

Requirements:

Bachelor s degree required.

7+ years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or financial management roles, with at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity.

Thorough understanding of GAAP, nonprofit accounting principles, and regulatory requirements.

Demonstrated expertise of general ledger, audits, AP/AR functions, taxation issues. Payroll experience desirable.

Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems; advanced Excel skills highly desirable.

Exceptional communication skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate findings effectively.

Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and proactive approach to team management.
