Job Duties

We are looking for a Data Governance and Controls Senior Consultant with financial services experience to help a large financial institution perform a review of its stress testing processes, systems, data, and controls. This person will be part of our global professional services team, which includes domain-led transformation services for banking and capital markets clients.


Your Role

The Data Governance and Controls Senior Consultant role will support the review of end-to-end processes and controls associated with data, systems, analytical tools at our clients. The individual in this role will be responsible for supporting a regulatory driven program consisting of a review of the DFAST and Capital Planning forecasting processes and controls, and evaluation of the adequacy and reasonableness of those controls. This person should understand what is required for a comprehensive data governance and controls program as it relates to DFAST stress testing processes and procedures at a large financial institution, specifically related to credit risk related to residential mortgages.

Some key activities for this role include:

  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive testing plan to assess the effectiveness of an organization's DFAST and capital planning stress testing processes, data governance, and controls
  • Analyzing DFAST and capital planning stress testing results, including the impact of stress scenarios on the organization's capital, liquidity, and earnings
  • Drafting and enhancing DFAST and capital planning stress testing policies and procedures, leveraging your industry knowledge and best practices
  • Assessing and improving the client's data governance and controls policies, procedures, and practices, leveraging the latest technologies and tools
  • Defining a client's 'to-be' state, which will involve the design of Governance and Controls Target Operating Models (TOM) through which data and systems are efficiently managed within the organization
  • Assessing and documenting current state data and system controls associated with data at rest, data in motion, and data in use, then designing and implementing target state governance and controls
  • Applying data quality best practices to identify gaps in data quality management, and providing recommendations for target state based on industry best practices and frameworks
  • Supporting and leading the design and execution of a comprehensive data validation program including the review of data, validation, reperformance, and analytical controls
  • Supporting a team in the delivery of a complex data governance and controls solution to a large financial institution using data aggregation, integration, and validation best practices and latest tools and technologies
  • Supporting a team in driving the delivery of all engagement deliverables, supporting engagement management (including administrative tasks), providing hands-on engagement delivery and oversight, and interacting with senior client stakeholders / sponsors.


Skills Required

  • Hands on experience in data management, data governance, and data quality management services for financial services clients
  • Extensive experience performing assessing and reviewing data controls associated with data at rest, data in motion, data in use
  • Experience with activities across the data governance operating model lifecycle
  • Hands on experience drafting data governance policies, procedures, and standards
  • Strong understanding of Data / Information Governance principles and familiarity with processes, policies, and any of the key vendor platforms
  • Extensive understanding of residential single family and multi-family homes including interest rate changes, etc.
  • Extensive understanding of regulations involving DFAST and capital planning stress testing activities
  • Hands on experience documenting data lineage and controls processes associated with
  • Hands-on experience designing and executing all activities of a comprehensive data quality management framework including DQ dimensions, data validation and testing, DQ scorecards and thresholds, DQ rules, data profiling, and data taxonomy mapping
  • Experience setting outcome-focused objectives, developing project plans, managing execution and creation of deliverables, and tracking and presenting progress towards stated objectives
  • Data-driven and analytical mindset to understand the business context and make the right decisions
  • Experience coordinating across multiple groups of client stakeholders across different functions, business units, etc. to drive towards a common goal
  • Experience defining the 'to-be' state for clients, which will involve the design of database repositories through which data is efficiently managed within the organization, securing its trust and accountability
  • Strong understanding of agile delivery frameworks as it relates to data management and implementation programs
  • Superior verbal and written communications skills and history of teamwork
  • Familiarity with regulatory / statutory requirements impacting data processes and controls for large banking institutions, including data privacy and protection
  • Hands on experience with at least one of the following tools: Python, SQL, R, Collibra, Informatica
  • Hands on experience designing and development Microsoft SharePoint sites
  • B.S. in Business Management, Financial Services, MIS, Information Management, Computer Science, or related field (M.S. or MBA preferred).
