Position Overview: My client is seeking a highly experienced and versatile Principal Software Engineer to join their dynamic team onsite in Tysons Corner, VA. As a leader in providing affordable communication services, this client connects underserved populations, including those in remote areas like Alaska and the Australian outback, ensuring everyone has access to cellular connectivity. The service, priced at the cost of a Starbucks Frappuccino ($7 per year), allows anyone to call, text, and communicate via cellphone, cheaply and effectively.

This role is a unique opportunity to impact global connectivity and work on innovative technology. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be at the forefront of developing both frontend and backend solutions, leveraging your expertise in Rust or other backend languages and various frontend frameworks. You will also play a pivotal role in guiding and mentoring junior staff, ensuring adherence to best practices and development standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop both frontend and backend components for satellite communication services.
  • Lead technical projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Implement and maintain cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices.
  • Serve as a technical mentor and role model for junior engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Solve complex problems across diverse environments, ensuring robust and scalable solutions.

Required Skills:
  • Extensive experience in both frontend and backend development (50% frontend, 50% backend).
  • Proficiency in Rust or multiple backend languages.
  • Experience with frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue or others.
  • Strong background in cloud services and DevOps practices.
  • Proven track record of building performance-intensive and complex web applications natively on the cloud.
  • Exceptional leadership skills and ability to mentor junior staff.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in varying environments.
  • Computer Science or Computer Engineering Bachelor's Degree

Desired Skills:
  • Experience in the Telecom and space industry
  • Experience in embedded software engineering
