Laboratory Operations Manager

Job Summary

Our client is seeking a Lab Manager to oversee lab operations, supervise lab employees, perform laboratory maintenance and safety training, and act as the safety and chemical hygiene officer. Responsibilities include purchasing supplies, inspecting and maintaining equipment, training users, and creating SOPs. This role requires collaborating with outside vendors, managing inventory, maintaining lab protocols, orienting new employees, and guiding lab personnel in research safety training.


Essential Functions

  • Order and maintain supplies, labware, and instruments essential to lab operations.
  • Plan, develop, organize, and implement policies, procedures, and standards for lab operations.
  • Manage all lab-related calibration, preventative maintenance, repairs, service contract renewal, and equipment upgrades.
  • Establish relationships with external vendors.
  • Plan and coordinate large-scale facility changes, including lab reorganizations and/or expansion.
  • Anticipate, troubleshoot, and resolve problems within the laboratory setting, including occasional off-hours responses to emergencies.
  • Work closely with Facilities, Operations, Engineering, and Procurement teams.
  • Undertake other projects or responsibilities as required.


Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience

  • BS or MS degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related Life Science field with 5+ years of experience in an industrial biotechnology setting and 3+ years of supervisory experience.
  • 3+ years of wet lab experience and broad knowledge of standard lab equipment.
  • Proven experience in laboratory housekeeping procedures, including maintaining inventory and equipment, ordering supplies, preparing solutions, and maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment.
  • Understanding of microbiology and sterile techniques.
  • Knowledge of EH&S regulations and requirements for laboratory safety, including methods for handling, cleaning, and disposal of waste.
  • Experience and aptitude for managing laboratory operations personnel.


Preferred Qualifications Education and Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience with Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) service.
  • Experience and knowledge of ISO 17025.
  • Experience in a high throughput manufacturing environment and flexibility to adapt to changes.
  • Strong team management, communication, and coordination skills.
  • A strong sense of work responsibility and cost awareness.


Salary Range

  • Base Salary: $90,000 to $100,000 DOE plus bonus.
