The Inova Fair Oaks Labor & Delivery unit is seeking a part time Surgical First Assist to support the unit. Our L&D unit consists of thirteen private labor and delivery rooms.

Job Responsibilities:

* The Surgical First Assistant ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning.

* Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serves as a resource preceptor, and mentor.

* Provides safe therapeutic care by collaboration with surgeons and health care team in performing a safe operation with optimal outcomes for the patient.

* Utilizes standards, guidelines and pathways for care delivery.

* Incorporates data and information to continuously improve care and practice to enhance outcomes.

* Teamwork-communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others.

* Has respect for and understanding of other clinical disciplines.

* Uses an integrated approach toward patient outcomes.

Requirements for Consideration:

* Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Surgical First Assistant or 2 years of Surgical Technologist experience

* Preferred experience in neuro spine and robotics

* Must meet licensure criteria and be licensed as Surgical Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia at time of hire

* BLS certification via American Heart Association

* Ability to communicate effectively in English.

* Ability to work routinely without direct supervision.

* Ability to demonstrate good judgment in daily activities. Ability to understand and implement infection control and hospital safety practices.

* A current credential as a surgical assistant or surgical first assistant issued by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or the National Commission for Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA) or their successors
