Accountant

Job description

The Internal Accountant performs various daily accounting functions. Responsible for payroll processing, maintenance of fixed asset system, depreciation schedules and assists Controller with financial closing process, preparation of monthly journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliation, cash verification and other duties assigned. Supports and follows through with the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of SEK CPAs & Advisors. This position reports to the Controller.

Requirements

Financial Record Maintenance & Reporting

  • Record daily accounts payables and receivables.
  • Maintain and update the general ledger for real estate entity.
  • Performs computer input and enters monthly journal entries into the accounting software system.
  • Ensure all financial transactions are properly documented and filed.
  • Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Reconcile discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
  • Prepare financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and procedures.
Payroll Processing
  • Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll.
  • Review timesheets for accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll regulations and tax laws.
  • Handle employee expense reports and reimbursements.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
  • Process vendor invoices and ensure timely payments.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on overdue accounts.
  • Maintain vendor and client records accurately.
  • Post daily cash receipts.
  • Prepare client statements monthly.
Firm Support
  • Compiles financial data and completes comprehensive industry surveys.
  • Maintains W-9 documentation and annually prepares 1099's.
  • Supports Firm Management and Controller with special projects and accounting related tasks.
  • Identifies and recommends changes that will enhance or improve current processes.
  • Participate in special projects assigned by the Controller.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education
  • Associate degree in accounting required
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting a plus.
Experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably within a professional services environment.
  • Minimum of 1 year of payroll processing experience (experience processing payroll using Paylocity a plus)
  • Experience working within a CPA firm is a plus.
Skills
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Effective mathematical and clerical skills, with the ability to accurately compile, prepare and verify detailed information.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of general ledger accounting and account reconciliation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively across the organization
  • High level of ethics and integrity. Must demonstrate ability to handle confidential information.
Certifications
  • Certified Bookkeeper (CB) or other relevant certifications are advantageous but not required.
