Department Overview:

Come join the dedicated and knowledgeable staff of the Research Animal Resources & Compliance Unit! The University of Wisconsin-Madison Research Animal Resources and Compliance Unit (RARC) is multidisciplinary in scope and provides veterinary and operational support to the UW-Madison animal care and use program. The animal program involves all aspects of animal use for research, teaching, and outreach.

Qualifications:

A dedicated, trustworthy student with interest in the biological sciences. Previous animal husbandry, research or veterinary experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Basic computer skills
Comfortable with animal handling

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Perform animal husbandry and breeding (mice and rats)
Receive animals and transfer into appropriate housing/cages
Prepare surgery packs
Inventory, order, stock, and organize supplies
Sanitize equipment, surgical instruments, caging, training spaces
Set up for training sessions
Clean up after training sessions
Other duties as assigned

The incumbent will assist the trainers with animal care and will prepare for training sessions with the goal of providing the UW animal research community with the best, most relevant training experiences possible.

Physical Demands:

Able to lift at least 40 lbs.
