Scope of Position

The Specialty Practice Lead Pharmacist assists the Associate Director in leading the infectious diseases pharmacist team, co-leading the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, providing direct patient care for the patients in the acute care setting as an ID Specialty Practice Pharmacist, and collaborating with other leads within the department and other healthcare providers.

Position Summary

The Specialty Practice Lead Pharmacist assists with the planning, organization, and evaluation of pharmaceutical services provided by ID Specialty Practice Pharmacists. Under the guidance of the Associate Director, the Lead assists in managing, guiding, coaching, and evaluating the work performance of the ID Specialty Practice Pharmacists. Other key functions include contributing to the ongoing operations of the pharmacy department and collaboration with other healthcare disciplines and departments that relate directly or indirectly to pharmacy services.

The Specialty Practice Lead Pharmacist also functions to coordinate all aspects of patients' pharmaceutical needs in the patient care areas. Duties include but are not limited to comprehensive review of patient profiles, responding to requests for drug information and education for healthcare providers and patients, reviewing/verifying/processing medication orders and product, and coordination of patients' pharmaceutical needs with other healthcare providers.

The Specialty Practice Lead Pharmacist, along with other members of the ID pharmacy team, will be responsible for contributing to the PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency program to ensure professional growth and accomplishment based on resident, program, and ASHP goals/objectives required for graduation. Other teaching responsibilities include precepting and supervision of other OSUWMC residents, interns, Pharm.D. students, and technicians. The Specialty Practice Lead Pharmacist will also provide educational programs for hospital staff (physicians, licensed independent practitioners, nurses and pharmacy staff).
