Job description

Master Carpenter

The Master Carpenter provides support to the Scenic Design Instructor in delivering hands-on instruction and practical experiences to students enrolled in scenic courses. The Master Carpenter assists with the setup and maintenance of the scenic shop, provides guidance to students during workshop activities, and ensures the safe and efficient use of tools and equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Scenic Design Instructor in preparing workshop materials, tools, and equipment for instructional activities.
Demonstrate proper techniques and safety procedures to students during hands-on construction and scenic painting projects.
Provide individualized support and guidance to students as they work on set construction and scenic design assignments.
Oversee the use and maintenance of workshop tools and equipment, including keeping the shop clean and organized.
Collaborate with the instructor to create a safe and inclusive learning environment that fosters student creativity and skill development.
Assist in the assessment of student work and provide constructive feedback to aid in student learning and growth.
Participate in training sessions, if applicable, to enhance teaching assistant skills and knowledge.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
High school diploma or GED; 5-7 years' experience
Prior teaching experience in basic stagecraft, set construction, or technical theater at the high school or college level.
Proficiency in a variety of stagecraft techniques, including carpentry, scenic painting, rigging, and stage lighting.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students from diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of safety protocols and best practices in theatrical workshop environments.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment.

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time

SALARY: $65,000-$70,000
