Scion Nonprofit Staffing , is searching for a Senior Accountant on behalf of an impactful historical preservation nonprofit organization in Washington DC! This is a direct hire opportunity offering a competitive annual salary, robust benefits package, and a full-time hybrid work schedule.

The Senior Accountant will perform a comprehensive range of analytical accounting tasks, focusing on monthly closing, reconciliation, budgeting, taxes, and general processing. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong sense of ownership, the ability to execute tasks to keep projects moving and meet internal and external deadlines and will be highly adaptable with strong problem-solving skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations to ensure that the general ledger is maintained in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain, reconcile, and record all activity related to the organization's semi-annual release of net assets.
  • Maintain, reconcile, and record all transfers between various funds.
  • Prepare assigned schedules as it relates to the organization's annual independent audit and annual budget.
  • Assist the Controller in the preparation of annual tax filings for the Federal government (IRS Form 990 and 990-T) and DC tax returns.
  • Act as a backup in processing bi-weekly payroll and weekly check requests.
  • Prepare schedules for various departmental inventory counts.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting with at least four years of experience in an accounting department or a public accounting firm; experience in a non-profit environment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency with computerized accounting software packages.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and intermediate proficiency in Word.
  • High level of tact, diplomacy, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

COMPENSATION & CAREER BENEFITS:
This opportunity offers an annual salary range of $75,000-90,000, depending on experience, plus benefits! Benefits include:
