VDOT's Fredericksburg District has exciting an opportunity available in its Operations Department. We are seeking qualified candidates to fill a District Operations Maintenance Manager vacancy. This position provides leadership and direction to district operations Asset Management staff. They direct maintenance operations staff and resources working collaboratively with counterparts within the district and statewide. They lead and direct inspection, maintenance, and installation of traffic control devices. The District Operations Maintenance Manager develops and implements an inspection and preventative maintenance process to identify and correct emerging issues.

* Extensive knowledge of traffic engineering principles and practices

* Skill in providing and promoting outstanding customer service to internal and external customers

* Ability to develop long and short-range strategic plans and goals, set measures and evaluate results

* Knowledge of supervisory and human resources practices and principles to include hiring, discipline, performance management and employee development

* Ability to plan, direct, supervise, and evaluate the work of others

* Knowledge of materials, equipment, and methods related to traffic engineering maintenance activities

* Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include traffic control device programs

* Ability to positively interact with employees, citizens, and government officials

* Ability to plan and coordinate work schedules and assess training needs for workforce development

* Skill in the use of computers and software applications

* Ability to develop, interpret, and apply policies and procedures

* Knowledge of contract administration principles and practices

* Knowledge of traffic signal operations related to signal components, controller equipment, communication infrastructure, and technology

* Ability to lead committees or groups

* Ability to plan, develop and manage budgets and financial resources

* Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences to include developing presentations and delivering training

* Ability to read and interpret highway and traffic control device construction plans

* Knowledge of federal, state and transportation rules, regulations, and policies

* Knowledge of VDOT policy, procedures, and practices

* Skill in building and maintaining effective relationships and teams

* Knowledge of MUTCD and Virginia Work Area Protection Manual

* Ability to effectively lead and coach diverse staff

* Knowledge in the operation of a large scale, public service agency

* Ability to analyze complex data and prepare reports

* Ability to plan, coordinate, schedule and manage multiple assignments and projects

Minimum Qualifications

* Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with customers

* Ability to read, interpret highway and traffic control device construction plans

* Ability to plan and develop budgets

* Skill in the use of computers and software applications

* Extensive knowledge of traffic engineering principles and practices

* Ability to plan, direct, supervise, and evaluate the work of others

* Knowledge of materials, equipment, and methods related to traffic engineering maintenance activities

* Contract administration experience

* Knowledge of MUTCD and Virginia Work Area Protection Manual

* Ability to analyze complex data and prepare reports

Additional Considerations

* Experience managing traffic engineering operational and maintenance activities, programs, and staff

* Experience in public relations and interpersonal skills

* Computer and software skills to include traffic control device applications and programs

* A combination of training, experience, or education in engineering, public administration, business administration or related field desired
