Your leadership will directly contribute to the satisfaction of our customers and the success of our hospital's retail operations.


Position Objective:

Responsible for the efficient and cost-effective management of the gift shops, including direct supervision and training of volunteers, with an emphasis on providing excellent customer service.


Essential Job Duties:

Supervision and Training

  • Directly oversee daily activities in gift shops, ensuring effective communication among volunteers and staff.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels (volunteers and paid staff) for operational efficiency.
  • Work with volunteer placement to recruit, train, and orient new volunteers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving volunteers and services.

Merchandising and Inventory Management

  • Maintain attractive sales displays using stock rotation and merchandising strategies.
  • Plan, design, and implement merchandise displays in all shops.
  • Act as the primary buyer for gift shop merchandise, sourcing new vendors and negotiating competitive pricing.
  • Receive, check, and track product deliveries in the POS system, resolving order issues as necessary.

Financial Management

  • Determine pricing of merchandise with the goals of customer satisfaction and profit enhancement.
  • Oversee cash handling and settlement procedures in all shops.
  • Review and approve invoices for payment in a timely manner.

Operational Management

  • Plan and manage the startup, stocking, and displays of gift shops.
  • Schedule and supervise over sixty volunteers and staff members, ensuring proper cash handling, inventory control, and shop maintenance.
  • Collaborate with hospital staff to ensure requested merchandise is available for sale, and monitor special requests.


Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma and good communication skills required.
  • Word processing and computer skills desirable.
  • Three years of office experience and one year of retail experience, preferably in a hospital gift shop.

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

  • There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will not be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.
  • Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
