Observability Engineer

*Full-Time Telework

This role has the responsibility of adhering to the security and privacy requirements within Company security trainings and within relevant Company Information and Security Policy and Procedures such as Company Policy on Privacy and Personal Information and Company System Security policies.

The Observability Engineer will be responsible for administering Nagios. This Engineer will also work with other Observability tools like: TrendMicro, OSSEC and Elastic SIEM. This candidate will need to have demonstrated experience in the ability to communicate with multiple teams via calls, screen sharing and emails.

Job Responsibilities:

Conduct daily O&M on Nagios including, but not limited to:

  • Evaluate and resolve issues with hosts
  • Identify and resolve gaps in Nagios monitoring
  • Maintain alerting profiles
  • Escalate identified alerts to the appropriate POC
  • Work closely with OS patching teams to ensure seamless patching of OS, to include components which Nagios is heavily reliant upon
  • Maintain Nagios at the latest stable, supported versions of the application
  • Work with vendor management teams to ensure licenses are maintained
  • Interface with Nagios support to resolve issues when needed
  • Assist other Observability Engineers with tasks for TrendMicro Deep Security Manager, as well as the Elastic SIEM Cluster.
  • Assist with updates, maintenance and hardening of systems supporting the Observability Team
  • Assist with the creation, configuration and troubleshooting of AWS (and other Cloud) services to ensure operability of the Observability team solutions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, other relevant field, or equivalent relevant experience; Master s Degree preferred.
  • Advanced computing certification preferred.
  • 8-15 years of experience in Systems Engineering/Analysis.
  • 5+ Years experience working in an enterprise environment. The candidate must be able to setup, configure, manage and maintain Enterprise level monitoring solution(s) for cloud-based systems.

Other Job Specific Skills

Additionally, the candidate must have the following skills:

  • 2+ years administering Nagios in an Enterprise environment
  • 5+ years of Windows and Linux administration
  • 3+ years hands-on experience in AWS environments.
  • Familiarity with agent-based endpoint protection tools such as TrendMicro and OSSEC
  • Familiarity with SIEM tools such as Elastic SIEM.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems such as ServiceNow
  • Familiarity with project management systems such as Jira
  • Experience in managing third-party vendors for delivering security services
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn new skills

Certifications:

  • Preferred Nagios Certified Professional
  • Preferred AWS Solutions Architect
