Job description

Overview Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a Research Assistant II to perform research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects. The Research Assistant provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff and solves problems of standard complexity in carrying out research projects in a clinical or laboratory environment. This position will be in support of the Surgical Critical Care Initiative (SC2i). The Surgical Critical Care Initiative (SC2i), funded by the Department of Defense was established in 2013. SC2i is a Uniformed Services University center that leverages legacy information from service members, and critically ill civilian and military patients to develop biomarker-driven clinical decision support tools (CDSTs) with the goal of improving patient clinical outcomes and reducing costs across the injury/disease cycle. Potential candidates would be directly involved in aiding SC2i's upcoming clinical trials, including WounDx, which leverages clinical data and IVD immunoassay data to guide patient care related to wound healing. The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals. Responsibilities Plans and conducts projects and workflows under supervision for clinical research and trial investigations. Ability to work flexible hours for project completion, including occasional nights and weekends. Performs routine data analysis and verifies and corrects data. Maintains records and documentation regarding assigned research. Documents current or new procedures or protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or statistical estimation. Ensures adherence to laboratory protocols for sample handling and processing to maintain sample integrity and quality in compliance with GCLP/CAP/CLIA (CLIP) requirements. Conducts routine quality control tests to ensure the integrity and purity of samples. Quickly identify and resolve issues with sample collection or analysis that may affect outcomes. Manages the inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents necessary for sample processing, biobanking, and assays. Processes and biobanks samples promptly according to established standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain integrity and quality for analysis. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the Supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role. Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in related science field required. Minimum of 3-5 years experience required. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures and clinical research lab procedures Strong attention to detail and accuracy Extensive work experience and technical skills with immunoassays (i.e., Mesocale Discovery, Luminex, ELISA, or equivalent) Experience working in a clinical research lab environment Ability to maintain high quality records and documentation Ability to meet deadlines of projects in a timely and efficient manner Ability to work collaboratively with study teams and cross functional teams Good communication and analytical skills Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and regulations Physical Capabilities Lifting: Requires lifting materials over 25 lbs. (dry ice, lab equipment, etc.) Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods Work Environment This position will take place primarily in a clinical research hospital and laboratory setting. Security Requirements: U.S. Citizenship required; Ability to obtain and maintain a T3 Secret Clearance. Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
