Job description
General Summary:
- Under general supervision, performs technical HIM responsibilities surrounding abstraction and analysis of discharged patient medical records for deficiencies and provides technical support to assure the quality of SP medical records for compliance and effective billing.
- Assists with facilitating HIM-hosted audits as well as providing support to other records-based audits initiated outside of the department.
- Assists Manager in the administration and distribution of forms; assists the Lead Quality Data Analyst on projects.
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of OneContent, Sunrise electronic medical record, Dragonspeak dictation and their interface with one another.
- Provides HIM coverage on the SP at Elkridge location on an occasional basis.
- Work requires an AA degree in health information management or related field, OR at least one year of related HIM work experience.
- Must have strong computer skills.HIM/HIT background in a hospital setting is preferred.
- Work requires analytical ability sufficient to receive and present information or ideas clearly, identify deficiencies and missing medical record content, serve as a resource for coding questions, and troubleshoot and resolve problems that clinicians encounter with the system.
- Work requires strong interpersonal skills in order to interact with physicians to orient them to HIM systems, apprise them of their medical records delinquencies and deficiencies, provide them assistance with questions about coding or system use, and gain their cooperation and respect (21-50% of work time).
- Work requires attention to detail, meeting deadlines, and the ability to concentrate for long periods when reviewing and processing records into the OneContent system.
