JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Inventory Control Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Finance

REPORTS TO: Jimmy Fuentes

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Inventory Control Clerk plays a crucial role in maintaining accurate inventory records and ensuring the efficient packing and handling of seafood products. This position requires to manage and maintain inventory system, facilitates upgrades to related database entering daily data, computer skills are a must for this role. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining quality standards while working in a fast-paced environment.

REGULAR ASSIGNED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Inventory Management:

  • Receive incoming seafood shipments, verify quantities, and inspect for quality and freshness.
  • Accurately record received quantities, product codes, and expiration dates in the inventory system.
  • Monitor inventory levels, track stock movement, and identify discrepancies or shortages.
  • Assist in conducting regular inventory audits and reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
Packaging and Quality Control:
  • Pack seafood products according to established guidelines, ensuring proper handling to maintain freshness and prevent contamination.
  • Adhere to specific packaging requirements for different seafood products, such as labeling, weight, and presentation.
  • Conduct visual and sensory inspections to ensure products meet quality standards before packing.
  • Report any damaged or substandard products to the supervisor.
Product Labeling and Documentation:
  • Generate and affix accurate labels with product information, barcodes, and expiration dates on each packaged item.
  • Maintain proper documentation of packed products, including quantities, lot numbers, and packaging date.
Safety and Hygiene:
  • Follow strict hygiene and safety protocols to prevent cross-contamination and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including gloves, aprons, and hairnets.
  • Properly dispose of waste and packaging materials in designated containers.
Collaboration:
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and other departments to ensure seamless operations.
  • Coordinate with the warehouse team to ensure accurate stock rotation and storage practices.
Equipment Maintenance:
  • Operate packaging equipment, such as sealing machines, scales, and labeling devices, following operational guidelines.
  • Report any malfunctioning equipment to the maintenance team for prompt repair.
Compliance and Regulations:
  • Stay informed about seafood industry regulations, health and safety standards, and food handling guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, including food safety and labeling regulations.
OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Provides inventory reports to purchasing and inventory control manager.
  • Manages and maintains inventory system; facilitates upgrades to related database and/or software under the direction of the purchasing or inventory control manager.
  • Conducts frequent spot and partial audits of physical inventory.
  • Assists with periodic physical inventory audits.
  • Operate forklift truck when necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma
  • Prior experience in inventory management, packing, or the seafood industry is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and inventory management software.
  • Physical ability to lift and move packages of varying weights.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Able to learn new software packages.
  • Able to navigate and create spreadsheets in Excel
  • Good telephone skills.
  • Strong work ethic with a cooperative mindset that is willing to assist others.
  • Must be reliable, trustworthy, and maintain confidential records.
  • Strong communication, problem solving, and analytical skills required.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player on multiple projects and to adapt to a fast-changing environment.
  • Must have attention to detail with an eye for accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including the ability to navigate/create excel spreadsheets.
  • Data entry skills along with an aptitude for numbers and reasoning abilities.
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Experience in a seafood industry preferred but not required.
