Senior Program Associate

Job description

Position description:

ACMER is seeking a qualified and passionate applicant for its position. The Senior Program Associate (SPA) will assist in the design and implementation of a strategy for ACMER s programs. The SPA will assist in the development of programs, drafts proposals, briefs, concept notes, and budgets. The SPA will also support the identification and oversight of program partners and ensure effective communications with funders.


Primary Functions & Responsibilities:


  • Assists in the implementation of program goals and coordinates between program stakeholders.
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of ACMER s convenings, including public events, roundtable discussions, workshops, and conferences.
  • Drafts grant proposals and reports for institutional funders.
  • Drafts concept notes, one pagers, proposals and budgets.
  • Develops and supports efforts to ensure that program goals are completed on time.
  • Monitors and ensures proper tracking of program expenditures to ensure projects remain within budget allocations and are implemented timely against a project work-plan.
  • Participates in monitoring and evaluation efforts of programs.
  • Assesses the feasibility of new funding opportunities and contributes to the substantive design of new programs.
  • Monitors, analyzes and reports on political and related developments in the MENA region and U.S. foreign policy stakeholders to provide analysis and information.
  • Establishes, maintains, and develops strong working relationships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Represents ACMER at external events and actively supports ACMER s communication strategy, including branding, newsletters, and outreach plans.
  • Travels as needed for program oversight and implementation.


Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in political science, international relations, or related field. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Two to three years professional experience in human rights, politics, policy, international affairs, or other relevant fields.
  • Working knowledge of politics, economics, history and culture of countries in the MENA region.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new program concepts, including country specific contextual analysis, operational approaches and evaluative methods to measure implementation progress.
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Program management experience, including basic accounting necessary to draft and oversee a budget.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team to coordinate and lead the efforts of other professionals to effectively meet program goals.
  • Demonstrated ownership and initiative over work.
  • Flexibility and adaptability; knowledge/experience working in closed/closing contexts.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
  • Arabic language (speaking and writing) preferred.
