Plant Controller

Job description

The Senior Plant Controller is responsible for reporting, analyzing, and budgeting and forecasting data regarding the inventory valuation and product costing for Turkey Hill.


They will be responsible for performing regular variance analysis and identifying opportunities for operational cost improvements, creating cost models in scenario analysis to assist management in strategic decision-making, will work or assist on special projects within the Conestoga and Searcy Operation and manage reconciliation in Adage to various systems ensuring the accuracy of our reporting system.


This position works closely with the Operations Team, Research and Development, Quality Assurance and Logistics/Warehouse/ Receiving Management and Finance Teams on various projects.


The Sr. Plant Controller will make a difference by:

  • Review and maintain material standards and overhead absorption and develop KPI s to assist with the tracking and accuracy of standards and overall Operations performance.
  • Review Manufacturing variances and Adage shop order variances. Analyze and prepare weekly bulk mix and shop order reports in effort to provided visibility to in-month production status and to help reconcile issues as they occur. Analyze month end variances for manufacturing and warehouse locations and report results to Sr. Management as part of the close process.
  • Responsible for all inventory related General Ledger entries at month-end, including milk inventory, and accrual entries.
  • Prepare Inventory and costing reporting at period close for management.
  • Responsible to update and maintain Adage new product, item and warehouse setup, including product type, product costing, product identification, and other product master fields that define and control the process that spans from purchasing of raw materials to delivery of the finished product.
  • Calculate machine rates, perform machine costing, and run calculations and scenarios based on adding / changing / subtracting manufacturing processes to support Project Management and Sales teams in quoting new and existing business.
  • Perform warehouse settlements with all Turkey Hill Dairy owned inventory at multiple locations and investigate differences.
  • Investigate differences between perpetual and physical inventories (daily, weekly and month-end).
  • Prepare monthly federal and state milk reporting in addition to coordinating State and Federal Milk Audits.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual PMMB 60 report and audit.
  • Reconcile milk and cream receipts daily.
  • Work with multiple Turkey Hill Dairy systems including WIMS, WIMSR, Pick Manager, Batch Reporting, Databarn Reporting, PIMS, Operations Reports, Calyspo and DSD Order monitor, ELF, Outside Warehouse Websites,
  • Provide suggestions to improve processes and gain efficiencies, demonstrates knowledge of continuous improvement and lean methodology.
  • Demonstrates the ability to engage and coach Associates to effectively work in department and cross-functional teams to define and implement process improvements that provide value to the customer.
  • Provides cost studies on mix and finished product on an as needed basis for management along with serving on committees that involve inventory management and product costing issues.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with all corporate and regulatory quality, GLP, and safety regulations.
  • Perform all duties within established Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and FSMA guidelines as well as all safety regulations.
  • Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Food Safety and Quality.
  • Demonstrates the ability to engage work in department and cross-functional teams to define and implement process improvements that provide value to the customer.
  • Be accountable to the Turkey Hill Food Safety and Quality Principles.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • Four (4) year college degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with advanced training in management accounting
  • 5-7 years of related experience in Cost Accounting or Cost Controlling in a manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of BOM/routings and how they interact with product costing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Must be able to modify communication style both formal and informal to match the appropriate level of the audience targeted
  • Considerable knowledge of computer programs, especially MS Excel (pivot tables, vlookups, macros, formulas) & ERP Systems. Tableau, and Adage (ERP) systems. Ability to quickly navigate websites to retrieve data and data base manipulation skills
  • Understanding of Lean process improvement (Lean manufacturing)

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to sit or stand up to 90% of the time to perform various job-related tasks.
  • Must be able to inspect all job related equipment (office or floor) to ensure it is in good working condition prior to use.
  • Must be able to stoop and bend to perform various job-related tasks.
  • Must be able to walk, move or traverse throughout the area of assignment to perform various job-related tasks.
  • Must be able to use hands/fingers to handle (or feel) in order to operate various types of office equipment.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs, and where applicable and when necessary, to perform various job-related tasks.
  • Must be able to position self to move, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed to perform various job-related tasks.
  • Must be able to operate all job related equipment (powered, hand or office) as required.
  • Ability to lift ___20__ pounds and/or push/pull __0___ pounds on a regular or occasional basis.
