Job description

Primary Function

This position is responsible for all financial matters for CAPA and the companies to which CAPA provides shared services. Strategic functions, including evaluation of new projects, budgeting, forecasting, financial controls, and cash flow management, are areas of critical importance for the position.

The CFO is a member of CAPAs Senior Team and is expected to positively contribute to CAPAs strategic planning and the development of strategic objectives and goals. The CFO is responsible for oversight, management, and development of the Accounting/Finance departments team members.

This position supports the financial needs of CAPA and the various Boards that CAPA works with and provides timely and accurate financial reporting to Trustees of each organization. This position also serves as a representative of CAPA in the Central Ohio community.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Ensures that the board of trustees and various board committees for each organization are provided monthly financial reporting and any special reporting as needed to conduct the business of the organization.

* Review opportunities for business development with the President of CAPA. Analyze and proforma potential projects for consideration by the President and the Board.

* Responsible for the safeguarding of company assets, internal control, oversight of tax and other required filings, and all accounting processes. Implements and updates appropriate financial risk mitigation strategies. Constantly works for improvement of processes that strengthen controls, improves the departments efficiency, and improves the ability to meet organizational deadlines.

* Ensures that CAPAs Accounting/Finance department stays up-to-date on relevant compliance and reporting regulations and reflects any changes into CAPAs financial operations.

* Lead the Accounting/Finance department and ensure that the department has staff with the skills and motivation to produce a high-level of financial work. Develop the staff through daily leadership and identification of appropriate training opportunities.

* Responsible for oversight of the annual budgets and ensuring that budgets are coordinated with all departments and members of management.

* Oversee cash flow management, ensuring availability of funds as needed and investment strategies of cash reserves.

* Oversee the implementation and ongoing use of financial systems and technologies.

* Maintain strong relationships with external auditors and ensure that external audits are conducted with an exceptional level of accuracy.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position requires excellent written and oral communications skills, as well as the ability to think strategically and problem solve daily. An ability to effectively communicate financial matters with trustees and staff that are not financially savvy is necessary.

Credentials and Experience

Four-year accounting or finance degree required. CPA or MBA preferred. Must have a minimum of ten years experience in an accounting management position. A familiarity with not-for-profit accounting requirements or fund accounting is highly preferred. Experience in accounting and control process improvement is desired. Experience managing HR/payroll and IT functions is a plus.
