General Operator Job Summary
Become part of a winning team producing Stone Wool in Ranson WV! Working with a Safety-First mindset, our General Operators maintain a safe and clean workspace for operation. The General Operator is an entry level role who will be responsible for handling products, cleaning and maintaining their assigned area per ROCKWOOL standards, as well as executing all tasks in compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, you effectively maintain the cleanliness in your surroundings in the assigned area while supporting consistent flow of high-quality product on the production line.

2. What are the day-to-day responsibilities of a General Operator?
  • Maintain a clean and efficient work area to support Melting Technicians via cleaning of the furnace tower and assisting with filter changes. Support Technicians in other tasks required to maintain the flow of melt to the production line.
  • Safely and efficiently manufacture quality stone wool insulation ensuring production at the highest possible output, maintaining the high standard of quality expected by our customers in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Frequently read and comprehend written instructions, checklists, and guidelines.
  • Adhere to established quality and environmental standards to identify and mitigate/escalate quality or environmental risks/issues.
  • Assist Yard Technicians as needed with maintaining the cleanliness of the raw material yard, charging plant, and waste house.


What professional skills and qualifications do you need for the role of a General Operator?
  • High school diploma or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum of 1 year work experience in a manufacturing, aggregate, or industrial setting and working with automated equipment required.
  • Ability to work around high-heat industrial manufacturing equipment and perform repetitive industrial cleaning tasks.
  • Possess a mechanical mindset and the ability to use basic hand tools and high-powered cleaning equipment, such as pressure washers.
  • Strong desire to train and grow into a Melting Technician in the future as positions become available.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office strongly preferred.
  • Grow and develop the team by training new hires and by sharing knowledge and experience.
