Overview

Tanaq Government Services (TGS) provides facilities Operations & Maintenance (O&M) services to Federal customers. Services provided include complete building maintenance and operations on large complex individual buildings as well as multiple buildings on large campus type environments including military installations. TGS is a subsidiary of the St. George Tanaq Corporation, an Alaskan Native Corporation (ANC) committed to serving Federal customers while also giving back to the Tanaq native community and shareholders.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and qualified individual to serve as Maintenance Mechanic providing facilities Operations & Maintenance at a federal government building located in Lanham, Maryland. The Maintenance Mechanic will be under the direct supervision of the Chief Engineer and / or Project Manager performing in a variety of skilled trades processes and ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner.

This is a fully onsite position in Lanham, Maryland. The shift is Monday through Friday; 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Must be flexible and available for any OT call back and fill in coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect equipment to determine maintenance needs by performing comprehensive inspection on motors, fans, pumps, thermostats, and plumbing, heating, or electrical equipment.
  • Inspect, lubricate, charge batteries, and perform repairs such as repairing or replacing pulled or frayed cords, hoses, belts, and brushes on cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners, buffing machines and auto scrubbers, and assemble new equipment.
  • Replace or adjust doorknobs, striker plates, hinges, and stops, auditorium seats and toilet seats.
  • Replace electric cords and plugs, lights, ballasts, and doorbells.
  • Clean roof drains, louvers, and window wells.
  • Repair or replace ball cock assemblies, faucet washers and components, flush valves, and shower valves.
  • Unclog toilets, urinals and sink drains by cleaning P-traps and sewer and water lines.
  • Repair or replace ceiling and floor tiles.
  • Adjust and maintain door closers and panic exit devices.
  • Install, repair, or replace venetian blinds and rods.
  • Lubricate bearings, oil motors and check belt alignment and assist in the adjustment and replacement of belts.
  • Prepare inspection reports and work orders for repairs.
  • Clean and change filters on air, oil, and water lines.
  • Shut down machinery in emergencies or for maintenance.
  • Repair small holes in plaster or drywall.
  • Clean and paint equipment and fixtures.
  • Clean assigned areas of work and equipment and seal machine room floors. Maintain an inventory of and order supplies in accordance with guidelines.
  • Remove snow from walks, drives, paths, and parking lots, utilizing shovels, snow blowers and tractors with a power broom or blade.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements

Required Experience and Skills
  • Must have 5 years of experience in Operations and Maintenance in a government facility setting.
  • Must have 5 years of direct experience in Commercial / Industrial maintenance in general building repair, maintenance, and basic plumbing and electrical.
  • Must have a strong background in mechanical, plumbing and electrical experience.
  • Be familiar with BAS controls, CMMS. To include work requests and PM tickets.
  • Must be able to obtain a HSPD-12 clearance.
  • Must have a CFC Certification
  • Must have knowledge and experience operating tools and power equipment used in the trades.
  • Must have working knowledge and adherence to Health and safety regulations.
  • Must adhere to safety practices and the handling of hazardous materials.
  • Experience preparing and maintaining accurate records required.
  • Possesse a Md. Stationary license perforable but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of computer operation for use of Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS) and Preventative Maintenance and work order systems (e.g., CMMS / MAXIMO).
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clear and satisfactory driving record.
  • Must be able to pass background check requirements as set by clients.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations applicable to building codes, industry standards, and recommendations contained in manufacturer's technical manuals and service reports.
  • Knowledge of applicable policies, regulations, procedures and processes, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests from customers and others.
  • Effective written communication skills using appropriate business English.
  • Human relations skills to build effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and common-sense skills.
  • Abide by the Federal Drug-Free workplace policy.
Education and Training
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
