About the Department

The Department of Information Technology (DIT) supports business operations with cutting-edge enterprise services, including data solutions, broadband support, communication systems, and more. DIT ensures seamless 24/7 service delivery to county departments, public safety agencies, and the broader community. The department is a full-service IT department supporting over 5,000 employees and approximately 2,000 volunteers.

  • Budget: Approximately $70 million for FY 2025
  • Staff: 118 Full-Time Equivalents, including direct reports such as a Deputy Director, two Assistant Directors, a Business Manager, and a Chief Information Security Officer

Loudoun County, home to the world's largest and fastest-growing data center hub, is seeking a visionary Information Technology (IT) Director. This is a unique opportunity for a strategic minded professional to lead enterprise information services and solutions, supporting the County s innovative vision and dynamic growth.

About the Role

As the Chief Information Officer, you will be at the forefront of technological innovation, driving strategic initiatives that enhance the organization s efficiency and effectiveness as part of a dynamic team of leaders from over 30 departments and agencies affecting County policy, service delivery and quality experiences for staff. You will:

  • Lead and Innovate: Oversee all IT operations, from infrastructure and data analytics to enterprise tools and business systems, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate and Inspire: Work closely with various departments and agencies, enhancing business processes and service delivery through smart IT solutions.
  • Strategize and Execute: Develop the IT department s strategic direction with the County Administrator, manage the department s annual budget, and implement performance measures to ensure high standards of service and efficiency.
  • Communicate and Motivate: Serve as the subject matter expert on complex technology issues, guiding senior leadership and inspiring your team to achieve excellence.

The expected hiring range is: $240,000 - $260,000 depending on qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master s degree in Business Administration, Technology Management, Public Administration, or related experience and six years of IT experience with increasing responsibility, including two years in a supervisory or management role;OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in innovation, continuous process improvement, financial management, including budget preparation and advanced project management skills, are essential.

Preferred qualifications

  • IT leadership experience in a complex environment, driving organizational alignment and change management, supported by technology operations.

  • Demonstrated success partnering with operational departments that have 24/7 services in a fast-paced, demanding local government setting is also strongly preferred.
