Middleby Coffee Solutions Group is the proud manufacturer of world-renowned Synesso and Concordia manual and super-auto espresso and coffee machines. Designed, engineered, and produced in the Pacific Northwest, both the Synesso and Concordia brands are known globally for quality and innovation. Middleby Coffee Solutions Group is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead our new product development (NPD), sustaining engineering, and manufacturing engineering efforts from our Renton, WA headquarters. As the Director of Engineering, you and your team of in-house and outsourced engineers and partners will be tasked with all aspects of engineering as you bring new traditional espresso and automated coffee machines to market and support our existing catalog of products.

To succeed, you must be highly motivated, adaptable, able to juggle competing projects/deadlines, and totally comfortable creating and working in a highly collaborative environment. You will be leading multiple complex programs, ensuring your team delivers on goals, timelines, and budget targets while developing best in class products that outperform the competition. You must have a keen understanding of design for manufacturing, a proven track record of successful product launches, and be able to effectively manage all aspects of both in-house and outsourced programs. Youll work with customer facing departments to keep a pulse on our current products, capturing lessons learned and driving improvements in the product and process. You will need to be willing and able to interface effectively with employees in every department, from Sales and Manufacturing, to Quality and Technical Services and possess an exceptional ability to interact effectively with employees of varying degrees of technical aptitude. The ideal candidate has proven technical skills, a strong hands-on background, and a willingness to learn and use data-driven approaches to problem solving. You must be results focused, collaborative, possess high levels of initiative, and have experience working across departments to create real-time visibility into programs of all sizes.

Your Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide NPD engineering management oversight to complex in-house and outsourced programs, managing project timelines, deliverables, budgets, and stakeholders.

Direct daily workflows, driving completion of engineering projects per established schedules by assigning appropriate resources and managing work results to ensure quality of deliverables.

Work cross functionally to bring designs from concept to CAD and then into fully engineered products that can be to prototyped, tested, and supported through to volume production.

Instill a culture of continuous improvement by questioning, assessing, and improving overall product effectiveness (Function, performance, features and attributes, cost effectiveness, design quality, manufacturability, reliability, serviceability, and safety).

Develop complete engineering release packages with all associated documentation including 3D models, BOMs, engineering drawings, and other associated documentation in a timely and organized fashion.

Drive your team to keep our engineering documentation organized and accessible by checking drawings into PDM.

Carefully develop and nurture the culture of the engineering team with a focus on effectiveness, speed, communication, and quality.

Participate in engineering reviews and provide final approval in ECO process.

Investigate new materials, tooling, and methods of manufacturing and decoration in support of product innovations.

Develop and document process initiatives in support of improved efficiency and quality.

Participate as a member of the corporate leadership team, supporting the strategic business planning process for identifying and defining NPD opportunities in support business growth objectives.

Maintain a clean, organized, and functional engineering test lab. Advocate for equipment and materials necessary to accomplish tasks on time and within budget.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, or other related discipline.

10+ years of engineering experience with proven track record of successful product development and launch.

5+ years of direct supervision/leadership of engineers.

Demonstrated first-hand exposure to the manufacturing environment. Experience working with parts and suppliers of the following manufacturing processes: Die casting, injection molding, metal fabrication, protective and decorative finishing processes.

Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals in a collaborative work environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to convey technical concepts to a diverse audience, document procedures, conduct individual and group training, and provide technical assistance.

Proficient with Creo, SolidWorks, CATIA, Rhino, or other similar CAD software.

A genuine desire to share knowledge / skills and be a good team player.

An unshakeable love of Engineering design, manufacturing, QC, failure analysis, and data.

Requirements

Preferred experience and attributes Direct experience in Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) or commercial product manufacturing business, preferably drinks dispense equipment (coffee, espresso, beer, soft drinks, water, etc.). Direct experience or knowledge of regulatory compliance testing and marks (CE, UL, CSA, NSF, etc.). Experience in LEAN/Six Sigma disciplines (especially problem-solving techniques) preferred. Working knowledge of Electrical Engineering, PCBA layout, and firmware, is a plus. Masters degree in Engineering or an MBA a plus. PMP certification a plus.

Physical Requirements: Ability to work in office, lab, and shop floor environment; occasional lifting of up to 25lbs; ability to perform testing & evaluation functions in an enclosed environmental chamber.

Travel Requirements: Domestic and international travel required as necessary to perform essential job functions.

Company relocation benefits will not be provided for this position. To be considered, you must reside in or within commuting distance to Renton, WA.

The annual salary range for this position is up to $170,000 per year based on factors including, job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
