Job Overview:

APTIM's Sustainability team is seeking a Sustainability/Waste Minimization Project Manager for our zero waste/waste minimization practice to achieve growth in both the public and private sectors. This is an opportunity for a management level professional looking to further advance their career with a global environmental leader, and to make a significant impact in successfully implementing APTIM's global sustainability growth strategy.

The ideal candidate will have 4+ years demonstrated experience on solid waste related issues ideally including zero waste, waste minimization, sustainable materials management, organic waste diversion, recycling, and circular economy. The team environment is highly collaborative and dynamic. Outstanding communication, presentation, and relationship management skills are required.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies to meet or exceed stakeholder (customer, government, investor, employee) expectations in close partnership with business development and client relationship owners.

  • Support and potentially lead waste-related proposal development.

  • Lead project execution in areas including recycling, circular economy, sustainable materials management, and organic waste diversion.

  • Assist with implementation of the marketing/communications strategy for sustainability and waste minimization to broaden the brand both internally and externally.

  • Leverage existing relationships to support the growth of sustainability and waste minimization opportunities in California and throughout North America.

  • Demonstrate a strong technical understanding of management of different material streams, which may include:

  • Conduct analysis of waste and recycling data, develop cost/benefit analyses, and develop feasibility reports.

  • Speak technically to clients and other stakeholders at a level appropriate to the audience in support of business development efforts.

  • Stay up to date on emerging regulations and trends in the field.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in sustainability, environmental policy, environmental studies, climate science, comprehensive planning, or related field is preferred.

  • Knowledge and experience on solid waste, recycling, zero waste, circular economy, plastics and packaging, and waste minimization strategies, etc.

  • Ability to analyze complex issues and develop strategies that will deliver outcomes to meet or exceed stakeholder expectations.

  • Experience supporting or leading proposal development.

  • Demonstrated investment in training, continuing education, and industry certification preferred (e.g., SWANA Zero Waste Training, or similar).

  • Ability to plan, execute and deliver on projects in a timely manner, with the added ability to multi-task on varying projects and initiatives.

  • 4+ years' experience in several of the following areas:

  • Solid waste management, recycling, zero waste, and circular economy

  • Sustainable materials management

  • Plastics and packaging

  • Proven track record in developing, managing, and executing client solutions.

  • Effective written/verbal communication, presentation, and public speaking experience.

  • Ability to maintain flexibility and travel.
