Position Summary:

The Maintenance Technician-General performs a wide variety of general building maintenance which may include machinery, mechanical equipment, electrical and plumbing systems; As a service provider this position must interact effectively with a wide range of constituencies in our diverse community. This position is designated as essential personnel and as such will provide on-call emergency services for the campus as described in the essential duties and responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are the functions essential to performing this job:

1. Maintain current working knowledge of multi-trades practices for commercial buildings including, but not limited to plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC, carpentry, metal fabrication, general repairs and plant operations.

2. Perform all work in accordance with all established safety standards.

3. Work efficiently and competently in either an individual or team environment with limited direct supervision.

4. Perform preventive maintenance to assure minimal equipment breakdowns.

5. Serve as on-call maintenance technician as scheduled and respond to maintenance emergencies.

6. Maintain proficiency in the use of the facilities energy management system (EcoStruxture).

7. Utilize work order software (Asset Essentials) to receive work orders and document work.

8. Prepare specifications for the purchase of equipment, tools, parts and supplies.

9. Maintain the operation of plant systems including chillers, towers and boilers.

10. Assist in room moves, set-ups, loading and unloading of equipment and supplies, as necessary.

11. Use trade tools and equipment, including snow removal equipment, in a safe and effective manner.

12. Maintain two way radio communications while on campus.

13. Respond as required as an essential personnel position to provide needed snow/ice removal or other emergency services to the College as assigned by your supervisor. Essential personnel are required to report for work or remain at work as directed, even if the College is closed or delayed.

14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications

1. High school diploma

2. Possess a valid driver's license (and maintain for the duration of employment)

3. Ability to obtain a DOT Medical Examinators Certificate (and maintain for the duration of employment)

4. Ability to ascend and descend stairs, walk long distances, lift up to 50-pounds and stand for long periods of time

5. Five (5) years of experience in the general maintenance field

Desired Qualifications

1. Previous experience in commercial building or plant maintenance

2. Previous experience servicing electrical systems

3. Previous experience servicing plumbing systems

4. Previous experience servicing mechanical systems and controls

5. Working knowledge of the facilities energy management system

6. Possession of a Grade 3 or higher Maryland Stationary Engineer license

7. Previous experience with snow and ice removal equipment

8. Demonstrated cultural competence working within a diverse, multicultural setting

Work Schedule

2:30PM to 11:00PM Monday to Friday
