IntroductionThe Maryland Department of Commerce is seeking\rqualified applicants for the position of Senior Manager of Business Development\rin the Office of Life Sciences (OLS) within the Division of Business and\rIndustry Sector Development.--- Life sciences is a key industry sector for Maryland\rthat includes biotechnology, medical technology, digital health, professional\rservices firms, as well as life sciences-focused investors, academic institutions,\rand federal agencies.\r---\rThis is a Management Service\rposition, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.\r\r\r\r\r GRADE23\r LOCATION OF POSITIONThe World Trade Center - 401 East Pratt Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202\r Main Purpose of JobThe Senior Manager will have a\rkey role in driving the growth of this sector in Maryland. This position will primarily be responsible for OLS's business\rdevelopment efforts to expand, retain, and attract life sciences businesses in\rMaryland as well as create and sustain high quality jobs for the citizens of\rthe state.\r POSITION DUTIES\rThe\rSenior Manager will address the critical needs of the industry through developing\rand implementing high-profile programs and initiatives and collaborating with\rpartners. ---Programs may address areas\rsuch as talent attraction and workforce development, enhancing the investment capital\ractivity in the state, promoting technology transfer and commercialization, and\rother areas determined to be key priorities. The Senior Manager is also\rresponsible for providing ongoing assistance to entrepreneurs, start-ups,\rearly-stage life sciences companies, and other partners, in navigating the\rresources available to them throughout the State of Maryland; promoting funding and\rincentive programs; creating and managing\rcontracts; supporting activities of advisory boards; meeting with members of\rthe life sciences industry, economic development, and government;--- representing and promoting Maryland's life\rsciences sector at meetings and conferences.\r\r\rThe\rselected candidate will possess experience in the life sciences with\rincreasing responsibilities; strong project, time\rmanagement, organizational, problem-solving, and written and oral communication\rskills; interpersonal skills to work effectively with high level public and\rprivate sector leaders; ability to handle concurrent, high priority tasks, to\rwork independently and as a team member, and to identify and take action on areas of opportunity. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite for Windows,\rGoogle Suite for business, Salesforce and/or other relevant software.------\r\r\rStatewide travel, occasional, out-of-state,\rand international travel.\r\r\r\r\r\r\r MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS\rEducation:---------A\rBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the life\rsciences, business, or a related field.\r\r\rExperience:---Six\ryears of progressively responsible experience in business or economic\rdevelopment, five (5) years of which\rinvolved interacting with life sciences enterprises on business\rdevelopment issues.\rAn equivalent combination of\reducation and experience is acceptable.---\r\r\rNotes:---\r\r\r\r1. Candidates may substitute the\rpossession of a Master's degree or a Doctorate degree from an accredited\rcollege or university for up to two years of the required general experience.\r2.---Candidates may substitute\rU.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in life\rsciences, health care classifications or Health\rServices Administration specialty codes in the health care related field\rof work on a year-to-year basis for the required experience and education.\r\r \r\r DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSPreference will be given to applicants---who possess the following preferred qualification(s).---Include clear and specific information on your application regarding---your qualifications and describe in detail any job duties relating to the qualifications stated:---\r1.
