Human Factors Specialist (All Levels)

Job description

The FAAs System Engineering and Technical Innovative Solutions (SETIS) portfolio will provide a broad range of Research, Service Analysis, Strategic Planning, Systems Engineering (SE), technical, financial, and programmatic support services that will enable the FAA to accomplish its National Airspace System (NAS), Mission Support and other aviation-related objectives.

This exciting and diverse work includes the technical, financial, and programmatic support services, and other aviation-related support services that fall within the FAAs Acquisition Management System (AMS) Lifecycle Management Policy activities, including:

  • Systems engineering and integration,
  • Investment and business case analysis,
  • System acquisition program planning and management,
  • System development and implementation planning and management,
  • System Life Extension Program/Technical Refresh planning,
  • Program and contract management,
  • Forecasting and business/financial/information management

In addition, the candidate will be involved in Aviation, Innovation, and New Entrants related activities that fall outside the AMS Lifecycle Management Policy. This includes, but is not limited to research, analysis, and assessment supporting the development of systems, standards, policies, published rules, and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs human factors engineering functions for computer human interface analysis, situational awareness, human-in-the-loop scenarios, ergonomics, and kinematics;
  • Directs human factors studies to promote the introduction and application of concepts, procedures, tests and evaluations, and operational requirements;
  • Ability to translate technical requirements into business solutions including experience?analyzing current state quantitative and qualitative?data, summarizing findings, developing conclusions, and making strategic recommendations;
  • Communicate design ideas and prototypes supported by objective analyses to facilitate decision-making;
  • Develop presentations and reports conveying complex information;
  • Provide technical direction and quality?review to team members in the creation of client deliverables.

  • Design or evaluate human work systems, using human factors engineering and ergonomic principles to optimize usability, cost, quality, safety, or performance.
  • Collect data through direct observation of work activities or witnessing the conduct of tests.
  • Conduct interviews or surveys of users or customers to collect information on topics such as requirements, needs, fatigue, ergonomics, or interfaces.
  • Prepare reports or presentations summarizing results or conclusions of human factors engineering or ergonomics activities, such as testing, investigation, or validation.
  • Technical experience in FAA's NAS modernization programs highly desirable;

Required Education:

Work experience that is not relevant to the labor category definition will not be considered in the "Years of Relevant Experience" calculation.

Level 6

  • 0-2 years of prior relevant experience is required with a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Sciences (e.g., mathematics, physics, meteorology, chemistry, etc.), applied or experimental psychology, human factors, ergonomics, sociology, industrial engineering or related field is required.
  • 5 years of relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree.
  • Master's Degree or MBA in related field may be substituted for bachelors degree and 3 years experience.
  • PhD in related field may be substituted for bachelors degree and 7 years experience.
  • Compensation $61,600 - $107,800

Level 5

  • 2-6 years of prior relevant experience is required with a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Sciences (e.g., mathematics, physics, meteorology, chemistry, etc.), applied or experimental psychology, human factors, ergonomics, sociology, industrial engineering or related field is required.
  • 5 years of relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree.
  • Master's Degree or MBA in related field may be substituted for bachelors degree and 3 years experience.
  • PhD in related field may be substituted for bachelors degree and 7 years experience.
  • Compensation $61,600 - $158,000

Level 4

  • 6-10 years of prior relevant experience is required with a minimum ofFull-time 2024-07-25
