About the Position

Goucher College's Office of Communications is seeking a talented and motivated entry-level web specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for website updates and maintenance, ensuring accessibility compliance, implementing SEO optimizations, managing email communications, and providing support to web editors with our Web Content Management systems (Modern Campus and WordPress).

The Web Specialist will work collaboratively with content creators, designers, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure that our website is up-to-date, error-free, user-friendly, and accessible to all. This is a full-time, remote position, but candidates must reside in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia or DC.

Responsibilities
  • Update and maintain content on Goucher College's websites, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Ensure website accessibility compliance with WCAG guidelines, implementing necessary improvements.
  • Implement SEO strategies to improve website visibility and ranking on search engines.
  • Develop user experience (UX) skills and learn and apply information architecture (IA) principles to optimize website usability.
  • Collaborate with the web team and clients to ensure a visually appealing and user-friendly website.
  • Provide support to web editors, ensuring they adhere to best practices and guidelines.
  • Create web forms using drag-and-drop form builders.
  • Assist with website analytics and reporting to identify areas for improvement.
  • Manage email communications including formatting, scheduling, and sending.
  • Assist with updates to the online events calendar and other web applications.
  • Collaborate on web projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree in communications, digital marketing, or related field, preferred.
  • At least one year of experience updating and managing website content in a Content Management System such as Modern Campus CMS, WordPress, Drupal, or SharePoint.
  • Proficiency in basic HTML and CSS.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to follow through on tasks.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Effective communicator (written and verbal) with strong collaboration skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Eager to learn and explore new technologies.
Preferred skills:
  • Experience with SEO strategies and best practices.
  • Understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA).
  • Familiarity with UX and IA principles, with the ability to apply them to website design and navigation.
  • Experience with website analytics (Google Analytics 4).
  • Basic image editing with Photoshop
