BASIC FUNCTION:

The Application Analyst is a vital member of the DevOps Team at Howard University. This role is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and enhancing the university's diverse portfolio of strategic applications. As an Application Analyst, you will collaborate with various stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and other IT professionals, to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance of the university's strategic applications. Your technical expertise and problem-solving abilities will contribute to the efficient operation of critical software solutions that drive academic and administrative functions.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The Applications Analyst has end-to-end responsibility for assessing user needs for strategic applications, researching and recommending potential vendor solutions, developing applications when appropriate, integrating new applications into the existing environment, and supporting applications once they are installed. The Analyst will also work with other teams at Howard to develop communication and/or training material as part of rolling out new and upgraded applications.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILTIES:

Application Support: Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance for a wide range of university applications. Respond to user inquiries, resolve system issues and ensure timely incident resolution to minimize disruptions.

System Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including updates, patches, and configurations, to keep applications running smoothly and in compliance with security protocols.

Application Enhancements: Work closely with end-users and business stakeholders to gather requirements and recommend improvements to existing applications. Collaborate with development teams to implement enhancements effectively.

Testing and Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough testing of application updates, patches, and newly developed features to ensure functionality, usability, and data integrity.

Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for applications, including configuration details, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge base articles.

Training and User Support: Develop training materials and conduct user training sessions to empower staff and faculty with the knowledge required to use applications efficiently.

Data Analysis: Utilize data analysis tools and techniques to derive insights, identify trends, and assist in making informed decisions related to application performance and user experience.

Security and Compliance: Stay informed about security best practices and university policies to ensure applications adhere to data protection and compliance regulations.

CORE COMPENTECIES:

  • Proven experience as an Application Analyst or a similar technical role, preferably within a higher education setting.
  • Experience in administering ServiceNow application.
  • Knowledge of application design principles.
  • Proficiency in programming languages, database management, and application.
  • Integration, (e.g., SQL etc.)
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Adaptable and self-motivated team player, capable of working in a dynamic and collaborative environment.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, or a related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Knowledge of higher education processes and systems is a plus.
