About the Team

AMT provides market access and industry intelligence to support its members and partners. The Technology department helps position AMT's members for success with respect to manufacturing processes, product development and management, equipment and software, and engineering research. The department fosters relationships and catalogs know-how between and across manufacturers, customers, universities, research organizations, and government and positioning AMT's members for success.

About the Role
The VP is responsible for vision and execution of AMT's strategy on engineering, R&D, and product innovation in line with AMT's wider goals for its membership and the industry. The VP will manage a team with broad manufacturing product and process expertise, directly assist members of the association, further AMT and its members' interests nationally and globally, maintain AMT's presence in the industry, be a resource for AMT staff without industry experience or direct manufacturing know-how, and represent AMT, its members, and the industry in public appearances and speaking engagements.
Successful individuals in this role will blend engineering and manufacturing expertise with business acumen, salesmanship, and strong customer service skills. Deep, specific knowledge of a narrow set of products is less useful for this position than the ability to understand and anticipate member needs and those of their customers.

What is manufacturing technology?

AMT servers members who make and/or sell factory equipment, CNC machinery, machine tools, 3D printers or additive manufacturing, CAD/CAM software, ERP software, shop floor monitoring, laser cutters, metrology, workholding and fixturing, metalworking fluids and cutting tools, PLCs and automation equipment, stamping equipment, presses, and other means of production for discrete manufacturing.

Requirements

Minimum Bachelor's degree in science, technology, or engineering discipline; or relevant industry experience

Minimum of ten years' experience industry experience in manufacturing technology in any job capacity

Proven experience in leading small teams

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills including public speaking on technical topics

Project management, entrepreneurship, or financial modeling experience helpful but not expected

This position requires travel up to 50% to member facilities, conferences, meetings, trade shows, and other relevant events

Additional requirements

Familiarity with export control requirements

Knowledge of Technical Readiness Levels (TRL) and Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRL) in an R&D context
