Staff Accountant Accounts Payable

Position Description
Provides functional support to the Controller and works with other accounting/finance personnel on the daily accounting responsibilities of the credit union. Primary responsibilities include accounts payable, fixed assets and prepaid asset processing, posting general ledger transactions, account reconciliations, and multiple analytical tasks.
Position Responsibilities
Performs the processing and recording of accounts payable transactions and ensures that all invoices and employee reimbursements are paid accurately and in accordance to the Accounts Payable and employee reimbursement guidelines. This includes all accounts payable activity such as vendor invoices, corporate credit card, tuition and employee expense reimbursement payments
Records fixed asset purchases and dispositions in accordance to the Fixed Asset Policy and procedures and reconciles the subsidiary ledger to the fixed asset general ledgers
Prepares annual property tax returns
Records, reconciles, and tracks project costs, prepaid and accrued expenses
Prepares and files the 1099-Miscellaneous Income IRS tax form
Prepares work papers/schedules for all external and internal audits
Assists other department and branches with accounting matters as applicable
Updates desk procedures as needed and participates in continuous process improvement
Performs other duties as assigned by the Controller and/or CFO
Position Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required. Two-year Accounting certificate required or College degree preferred
One to three years accounting experience preferred
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal with the ability to communicate issues clearly and tactfully to all levels of management
Organization and prioritization skills to meet multiple deadlines
Attention to detail and ability to adapt in a changing environment
Confidentiality
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and applicable training
Proficient knowledge of spreadsheets and accounting software
