ABOUT THE JOB:
The Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking a Engineer III for its Division of Transportation Engineering (DTE) . The Division of Transportation Engineering (DTE) is responsible for planning, engineering, and constructing Montgomery County's infrastructures.
The Engineer III is responsible for the planning and design of transportation infrastructure projects from pedestrian and bike facilities, roadways, intersection improvements, drainage, and transit improvements. The Engineer III is also involved in the completion of construction and as-built plan approval.
The employee will manage moderately complex capital improvement projects while working with a multi-discipline planning, design and construction team including staff from other divisions within DOT and across other departments. Duties include managing consultant contractors, including managing scope, schedule, and budget as well as reviewing technical submittals. The person will e nsure Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects are delivered within the assigned schedule and budget through effective planning and problem-solving techniques.
The employee will prepare for and provide presentations for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) Planning Board, Montgomery County Council Transportation & Environment committee and the public. The employee will work collaboratively with regulatory agencies, local jurisdictions and the public. The position also requires providing good customer service through social media, emails, letters, project meetings and public meetings.
This job requires employee to communicate with both the public and public officials. Employee must have strong interpersonal skills to communicate and work with residents, elected officials, other government agencies and transportation professionals.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
This employee's focus is the management of transportation infrastructure planning and design projects. The employee will manage the planning and design of moderately complex County transportation projects including roadways, intersections, transit, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities as identified in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Duties include the control of the schedule, budget, and quality of multiple projects and interaction with project stakeholders to successfully complete projects.
