Job description

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is dedicated to advancing science, engineering, and innovation throughout the world for the benefit of all people. We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced Project Manager to join our team and support NSF-funded projects, including the Emerging Researchers National Conference in STEM and the HBCU Making and Innovation Initiative.

As Project Manager you'll be instrumental in coordinating resources, disseminating promising-practices, and evaluating programs. You will also support the development of virtual engagement opportunities, report writing, and resource generation advancing AAAS's in-person and virtual professional development activities for the NSF-funded projects Emerging Researchers National Conference in STEM and HBCU Making and Innovation Initiative.

What You'll Do

This position will support the ISEED Program Director's vision, operation, and strategic direction for the ISEED projects which they support with consistent communication and strong collaboration. More specifically, this Project Manager will provide leadership through the following functions:

* Oversee the submission, review, and selection process of ~1,000 STEM abstracts from undergraduate and graduate student researchers.

* Manage the STEM expert judge recruitment, selection and assignment process of ~600-800 student STEM research abstracts for presentation at a large STEM conference.

* Manage the communications, coordination and dissemination of impacts of two working groups focused on supporting students in STEM with disabilities and leveraging professional STEM societies to support students' education and career goals.

* Manage community engagement efforts focused on supporting student well-being, mentoring, and advancing innovation capacity at HBCUs.

* Manage the curation and dissemination of resources to support HBCU students and faculty in innovation.

* Provide data analysis to support project research efforts and report writing.

* This position is a hybrid role, offering a combination of remote and in-office work.

Minimum Requirements

* Bachelor's degree required in STEM, social science, education, or related field.

* 4+ years of experience in project management or a graduate degree in a related field.

* Strong understanding and passion for broadening participation and DEI research, issues in STEM.

* At least two years of experience in research, community building, resource development, or a related area.

* At least two years of experience in project management, website administration, and database management.

* Experience in program implementation or grant execution.

* Commitment to creating equitable systems that broaden participation in STEM for all.

* Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other software.

* Intermediate skills in data analysis and visualization.

* Quick learner with the ability to effectively utilize:

* Microsoft 365 Suite

* Web content management software (such as HTML/CSS and WordPress);

* Online tools (e.g., MailChimp, and SurveyMonkey)

* Desktop publishing tools (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop) desired

Preferred Skills

* Basic research and program evaluation skills.

* Experience with publishing tools Experience with data analysis/visualization.

* Strong community engagement skills.

The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is $72,000-82,000 per year. AAAS currently provides the following benefits for this position: paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, paid holidays, health insurance, flexible spending account, dental insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, retirement benefits, short- and long-term disability, each subject to the terms of the applicable program. Additional benefits may apply.
