Job description

The Corcoran Department of History at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for an administrative coordinator.

The University of Virginia's Corcoran Department of History has long been an anchor of the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. Members of the Department are nationally and internationally recognized for their scholarship and teaching and specialize in a wide range of disciplines. Offering over 100 courses a year, the faculty teaches introductory surveys, seminars and colloquia to undergraduates and graduate students. The administrative coordinator will report to the department's finance and administration manager.

The successful candidate will be expected to support several operational functions including general office support, facilities, events, communications, and faculty affairs as well as special projects, on occasion.

Job responsibilities include:

* For general administration (approximately 50%): may answer phones; sort mail; order supplies; place facilities maintenance work orders and maintain key inventory; prepare correspondence; maintain calendars/room reservations; arrange for meetings and events; coordinate travel arrangements; and maintain files and records. This position will have a purchase card to make purchases on behalf of department staff, faculty, and students and will expense their purchase card and place requisition orders for supplies and catering.

* For communications (approximately 25%): may maintain department social media accounts, website, print marketing materials and promotional items, electronic marketing materials, listservs, and electronic and print newsletters.

* In addition, will support the Department Chair and faculty committees (25%) with meeting arrangements, file maintenance, creation of collaborative shared sites, and other tasks, as needed.

* In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education: High School Diploma

Experience: At least one year of experience

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working in a higher education setting.

* Experience working with UVA Systems (Workday, Box, Docusign, etc.).

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. This position will require occasional evening and weekend programs.
