The Software Engineer will play a crucial role in advancing the CDC Foundation's mission by developing and maintaining software applications for a public health association that specifically serves local, tribal, and territorial populations. Working within Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, Admin Division, Business Technology Team, the Software Engineer will support the redesign, development, and automation of workflows within our Enterprise Content Management System. They will have strong programming skills, a solid understanding of quality improvement principles, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-departmental teams to deliver innovative solutions that improve public health. Ideal candidates should be equally comfortable solving technical problems by writing code, explaining technical design architecture to technical and non-technical individuals while also leading organizational strategy and change.The candidate should have strong, demonstrable experience with JavaScript and CSS languages and should be proficient in web development, relational databases, Enterprise Content Management systems, and operating systems. The candidate should be knowledgeable of engineering best practices such as source control, automated testing, continuous integration and deployment, and peer review.The Software Engineer will be hired by the CDC Foundation and assigned to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, Admin Division, Business Technology Team, this position is eligible for a fully remote work arrangement for U.S. based candidates.Responsibilities

Work with cross-departmental teams to gather requirements through interviews with users and stakeholders and integrate into design of software solutions with a focus on quality improvement principles.Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software workflows in collaboration with project teams.Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code using various programming languages.Participate in the design and architecture of software solutions to meet the public health agency s project requirements and scalability needs.Adhere to best practices for software development, including coding standards, code reviews, and testing methodologies.Conduct thorough testing of software applications to identify and resolve bugs, performance issues, and other software defects.Collaborate with teams to ensure the delivery of reliable and user-friendly software solutions.Work closely with cross-departmental teams, including users, stakeholders, designers, and project managers, to deliver integrated software solutions.Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and methodologies in software development.Provide guidance on new tools, frameworks, and technologies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of software development efforts.Qualifications

Bachelor s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.Experience and proficiency in programming languages such as CSS, Python, or JavaScript.Experience and proficiency in web development, and relational databases.Experience with business process automation software to design modernized workflows of existing processes.Knowledge of database management systems (e.g., SQL,).Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, deploying software, process automation, workflow design and quality improvement principles.Experience with user experience design and form development for end users.Experience with requirements gathering through interviews with users and stakeholders.Knowledge of engineering best practices such as source control, automated testing, continuous integration and deployment, and peer review.Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Experience and ability conveying technical concepts to non-technical partners effectively.Ability to analyze complex technical requirements and translate them into scalable software solutions with a lens toward quality improvement.Experience working on cross-departmental, multidisciplinary teams that deliver digital solutions and services in an incremental, user-focused environment.Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and priorities.Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; and the ability to develop productive working relationships with colleagues and partners.Demonstrated ability to work well independently and within teams.Experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and teams.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience working with Laserfiche or other Enterprise Content Management systems.Familiarity with government financial and authorization business workflows.Special Notes
