About the role:

As an experienced Outreach and Communications Team Lead, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the mission of the Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP) within the Department of Defense (DoD). You will be responsible for overseeing strategic communication initiatives and stakeholder engagement efforts, driving comprehensive communication strategies, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to provide Assistive Technology (AT) and accommodations for individuals with disabilities and wounded Service members across the DoD.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned by management.

  • Develop and execute comprehensive outreach, communication, and engagement strategies aligned with CAP's mission and organizational goals, including active participation in events, conferences, and facility visits.
  • Have led the Outreach Team (1 to 2 direct reports) in creating and implementing targeted campaigns, attending industry events, and providing demonstrations to educate stakeholders and customers on emerging Assistive Technology (AT) and accommodations.
  • Through regular site visits and direct engagement, foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including federal clients, team leads, DoD civilians, Service members, supervisors, and military treatment facilities.
  • Supervise and mentor direct reports, guiding communication best practices, professional development, and performance improvement.
  • Ensure consistent representation of CAP's brand across all channels, enhancing brand visibility and recognition.
  • Manage media relations, seeking positive coverage for CAP initiatives through personal outreach and relationship-building.
  • Develop and execute community outreach programs to expand awareness of CAP throughout the DoD, pursuing collaboration with external organizations and advocacy groups.
  • Analyze communication and outreach data to assess effectiveness, preparing and presenting regular reports such as executive briefings to senior leadership.
  • Manage the communication and outreach budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources for travel, events, and promotional activities.
  • Plan and attend 4 or more conferences a year across the country to increase CAP awareness, engaging with attendees and representing CAP with expertise.
  • Review and update communication plans, manage content creation for various platforms, and coordinate CAP events, including webinars and participation in AT industry events.
  • Analyze branding and establish a consistent message to engage the target market.
  • Lead social media engagement and marketing efforts to enhance CAP's market presence.


Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Ten or more years of experience, including a leadership role, with at least eight years in communications, outreach, engagement, or related fields is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field is required.
  • Two or more years of experience in communications or outreach working with assistive technologies and accommodations is required.
  • Experience with the DoD and its stakeholders is required.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility guidelines and requirements is required.
  • Understanding of assistive technologies and accessibility principles is preferred.
  • Proficiency in utilizing communication tools, analytics, and relevant software.
  • Experience in brand management, media relations, and strategic marketing.
  • Strong leadership and engagement skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities, with demonstrated ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly proficient in using MS Office Suite applications on the DoD network.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment and changing priorities.
  • Effective problem-solving skills, particularly in addressing communication challenges and customer concerns.
  • Strategic thinking to contribute to accessibility initiatives and mission promotion through targeted marketing.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Security Clearance: Secret or ability to obtain is required.
  • Must be a resident of the US or hold US citizenship.
  • Work arrangement: on-site at the client site in Arlington, VA 2-3 days per week.
  • Travel requirements:
  • A writing sample will be required upon request.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs of equipment and promotional materials for events.
  • Extended periods of standing, sitting, and walking at events, conferences, and demonstrations.


What We Offer:

  • Salary $85,000 - $110,000 commensurate experience. Please provide your expectations when submitting your resume.
