TITLE: Security Engineer III

Duties: Assist in the development of all test reports and required certification documentation. Review of all test reports and required certification documentation. Review/comment submission-related output from other Engineers. Lead CAVP algorithm testing using ACVP/ACVTS. Serve as technical point of contact with customers. Support SP800-90B entropy evaluations. Project point of contact with government validator. Lead customer Gap Analysis workshops and create related consulting documentation. Participate in external technical communities. Lead internal training and mentorship activities. While the category is about software development, our role as the third party test lab is to evaluate software and hardware made by our customers and test it per the requirements of the FIPS 140-3 standard. The software that our customers are developing are cryptographic modules and other cybersecurity related software and hardware products. Responsible for the evaluation and testing of our customer's products per the standard and technical leadership of the teams doing the evaluations and testing. As for tools used, we use tools provided by the Cryptographic Module Verification Program (CMVP) which is part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). We also have proprietary tools that Acumen has developed to run testing on the customer's products. The primary role does not involve new software development but is part of our customer's process of developing new software and hardware products so they can get them to market with the required certification. This position requires 35% domestic travel and 5% international travel. Teleworking is acceptable within a reasonable commuting distance of the Rockville, MD office. #LI-DNI

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer/Information Science, Information Assurance/Cybersecurity, or related field of study and four (4) years of experience as a Security Engineer, Oracle Developer or related role where required experience gained.

In lieu of a Bachelor's degree in stated fields and four (4) years of stated experience, employer will accept a Master's degree in stated fields and two (2) years of stated experience.

SPECIAL SKILLS: Also requires experience in the following:

  • Two (2) years of technical experience in FIPS 140-2/3 or a related area;
  • CVP certification, or ability to obtain CVP within 180 days of employment;
  • CAVP algorithm testing using ACVP/ACVTS;
  • Networking concepts (OSI model, TCP/IP, Ethernet, etc.); and
  • Security related protocols and their usage (e.g., TLS, SSH, IPsec, MACsec).
