JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Physical Therapist

Licensure: Appropriate State of Ohio Certifications/License
Reports to: Chief Student Services Officer
Employment Status: Regular/Part-time (15 Hours/Week)
FLSA Status: Exempt

Description: Provide the evaluation and treatment of a person by physical measures and the use of therapeutic exercises and rehabilitative procedures, with or without assistive devices, for the purpose of preventing, correcting, or alleviating any disability, establish and modify physical therapy programs, treatment planning, instruction, and consultative services.

NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance

Qualifications:
Master's degree in the field of physical therapy.
Current valid license from the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Trainers Board
Educational license from the Ohio Department of Education

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of academic area and teaching methodology
Ability to work effectively with others
Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
Effective, active listening skills
Organizational and problem solving skills
General computer skills

Essential Functions:
Performs specialized assessments such as R.O.M., muscle testing, neurodevelopment assessments, gait and functional analysis, evaluation of prosthetic, orthotic, and adaptive devices
Requests, secures, and follows up on medical prescriptions and information relative to the physical therapy plan
Makes referrals to appropriate outside services
Shares information and works with others in overlapping areas (e.g., occupational therapists, etc)
Evaluates need for assistive devices and equipment
Provides consultation services with instructors, parents, guardians, and significant others to ensure comprehension of physical therapy objectives
Serves as a resource for staff in physical therapy matters
Assists in structuring classrooms to eliminate environmental barriers which impede the ability to learn
Aids in the procurement of special equipment and assistive devices for the classroom, transportation, and home
Supervises and provides physical therapy treatment for appropriate students and modifies the physical therapy plan for each student as needed
Prepares and maintains records and reports
Prevents orthopedic problems that limit full participation in education programs
Enables a child to maintain or improve postural control by activities involving equilibrium and righting responses
Assesses appropriate method of locomotion and assists in developing that method
Facilitates a child's ability to process and respond to sensory information in his/her environment in an organized manner as a basis for motor development and maturity
Participates in and provides staff training programs
Attends seminars and workshops to enhance professional knowledge and skills

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships
Serve as a role model for students
Counsel, advise, encourage, and motivate students
Interact with other departments and school personnel when necessary
Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
Perform other duties as assigned

Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue
Occasional interaction among unruly children
Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 25 pounds, e.g., paper boxes, deliveries of supplies and equipment
Frequently move and position self as necessary to access and operate equipment
Frequently move around workspace and travel throughout school building and/or school district
