Job Summary

The Director of Student Services will be responsible for directing a comprehensive undergraduate academic and career advising and student success program in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SONHS). These services include new student orientation, academic advising, career advising, recruitment, School of Nursing and Health Sciences admissions, BSN mentoring programming, and compliance with campus and school policies and standards.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Directs a comprehensive undergraduate academic and career advising program in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, including health science programs as developed.
  • Responsible for student success programming, which includes developing and facilitating success initiatives for undergraduate pre-BSN and BSN students.
  • Responsible for supervising advising staff, and coordinates and directs advising activities of professional staff members (one full time employee) in the school.
  • External relationship building.
  • Oversees Nursing and Health Science program recruiting and represent the School in recruiting events.
  • Collaborates with staff, campus community, and healthcare partners regarding recruitment initiatives.
  • Directs School of Nursing and Health Sciences admissions processes.
  • Collaborates with SONHS faculty and staff, IU East campus and university departments and local, state, and professional organizations.
  • Develops and facilitates faculty advisor training.
  • Serves as primary contact for campus offices regarding student advising and student service related issues.
  • Makes recommendations to faculty committees/ and or Dean for policy changes and implementation regarding advising, admissions, and student issues.
  • Participates as an ad hoc member of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences Admissions, Progression and Graduation Committee.
  • Creates, maintains, and distributes resources.
  • Performs other duties incidental to the work herein described and as assigned by the Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

General Responsibilities

  • Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define student services methodologies and standards.
  • Provides direction and guidance on high priority student services projects/initiatives.
  • Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase student services initiatives.
  • Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
  • Manages high level assignments and allocation of student services resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams.
  • May coordinate large-scale student services projects with wide audiences in support of academic, wellness, inclusion, and safety initiatives.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
  • Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry student services standards, technologies, policies, and procedures.
  • Responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
  • Works collaboratively with other student services leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
  • Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees.
  • Serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to student services.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in law, public health, public affairs, counseling, social work, or related field.
Preferred
  • Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 4 years in student services, higher education student affairs, or related field.
  • 1 year of management experience in relevant field.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary

$49,836.80 - $58,939.00 per year.
