Assistant Director of Nursing - Senior Living

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is a vital part of the healthcare leadership team, committed to maintaining the highest standards of resident care within our assisted living and memory care community. The ADON will support the Assisted Living Manager in policy development, interpretation, and staff development, ensuring compliance with nursing practice standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are essential to this position. This list is not exhaustive, and additional duties may be assigned as needed:
  • Admissions: Conduct the resident admission process, including recruiting and interviewing prospective residents. Complete all admission and evaluation materials, ensuring accurate documentation, including functional assessments.
  • Staff Management: Assist in the recruitment, training, supervision, and discipline of Personal Care Aides and Nurses.
  • Meetings: Attend and actively participate in stand-up meetings, care conferences, risk meetings, and other assigned meetings.
  • Resident Rights: Ensure the protection and enforcement of all Resident Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all state rules and regulations governing assisted living.
  • Assessments: Assist in the completion of all state-required assessments.
  • Record Maintenance: Help maintain all records and communications as required by state agencies.
  • Resident Transitions: Manage the transfer/discharge process, ensuring smooth transitions to higher levels of care as needed. Counsel residents' representatives as necessary.
  • Staff Counseling: Work with the Director of Nursing (DON) to counsel staff on specific resident problems.
  • Oversight: Assist in overseeing charge nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).
  • Memory Care Focus: Provide focused attention on Memory Care within the community.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise staff to ensure the delivery of quality services in a caring environment, preserving residents' independence and self-respect.
  • Coordinate with department directors and supervisors to schedule all services provided to residents.

Educational Requirements and Experience
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Long-term Care Knowledge: Experience with long-term care regulations.
  • Dementia Care Expertise: Understanding of the dementia disease process and management experience in a memory support unit (preferred).
