OSP Construction Estimator

Job Summary:

The Outside Plant Construction Estimator is responsible for developing accurate and timely proposals and estimates for fiber construction projects, including the installation of underground duct bank systems via trenching and boring, cable installation. This role involves preparing cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment, ensuring competitive bids, and collaborating with project teams to optimize project schedules and execution.

Key Responsibilities:

Cost Estimation:

Abel to prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment based on the provided scope of work, drawings, and specifications. Price out scopes for installing underground duct bank systems using trenching and boring methods. Review and understand all bid documents and material requirements to assess constructability and product material needs. Prepare cost breakouts and submit estimates using Excel bid forms. Identify and understand differences in subcontractor quotations to ensure accurate cost assessments.

Proposal Development:

Expertise in comprehensive proposals based on the scope of work and bid specifications. Work with distribution channels to maintain the best available pricing and lead times for materials and equipment. Generate and manage Requests for Information (RFI) with the team, customers, or end users to clarify project details.

Collaboration and Communication:

Work closely with Project Managers and Area Directors to develop multidisciplinary estimates. Collaborate with the project management team to create and optimize project schedules. Provide innovative ideas and improvements to enhance project outcomes. Communicate effectively with team members, customers, and end users to ensure alignment and clarity on project expectations.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction estimating, preferably in the fiber construction industry.
  • 7+ years of experience in Outside Plant Construction.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Extensive knowledge of construction means and methods, costs, and engineering principles.
  • Strong understanding of market conditions and cost structures in the construction industry.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to take accountability for delivering on commitments and meeting deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Capable of analyzing and interpreting complex bid documents and specifications.
