JOB SUMMARY

Assists teachers with the diverse instructional needs of students. Performs instructional tasks as outlined by professional staff based on student learning plans, delivery of the curriculum, recognizing the critical role that differentiated and supplemental instruction play in enabling all students to gain knowledge, skills, and an enthusiasm for learning. Assists in individual and group activities, reinforcing instruction, motivating students, facilitating classroom management, and working closely with teachers and other service providers on behalf of students to support the delivery of instruction at the Pre-K, elementary, and/or secondary grade levels. Must be able to perform any and all listed duties independently which may vary based upon assignments. Assists teachers by performing a variety of tasks that promote accelerated student achievement and well-being. Based on school and student needs, may require specific skills and/or experience for a target student group or instructional program such as English learners, early childhood, dual language, special education, Title I and gifted or advanced learners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

* Implements instructional plans and activities as designated by the teacher or team, including demonstration of tasks/skills, reinforcement, and gathering of assessment/observation data.

* Assists in formulating learning activities, preparing materials, and conducting planned instruction to support learners in reading, writing, listening, speaking, comprehension, and other curriculum tasks aligned to grade-level standards.

* Utilizes appropriate teaching aids, instructional resources, and technologies to promote student access and inclusion to grade-level learning goals.

* Collaborates with teachers and instructional leaders to review student progress and plan for instructional goals by contributing to discussions with stakeholders.

* Provides clerical, administrative and/or general assistance in support of school programs and operations.

* Engages with professional development opportunities to learn new skills and gain knowledge, including those provided on the job.

* Assists students with navigation of the school/community based on student schedules to include the supervision of students in both instructional and non-instructional settings.

* Maintains knowledge of appropriate policies and procedures.

* Supports extended learning and enrichment programs during the summer.

* Supports communication with families and encourages involvement in school activities, as designated by the teacher or team, to increase family connection to school community.

* Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education

* High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required.

* Associate's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.

Experience

* One (1) year experience working with children in an educational setting required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

* Ability to work collaboratively/professionally to support the efforts of teachers/service providers.

* Effective verbal and written communication skills.

* Ability to maintain confidentiality.

* Job requires direct in-person provision of service, therefore punctual, regular and predictable attendance is essential.

* Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.

* Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred). For new permanent secretarial/clerical/technician hires, a minimum score on a pre-employment assessment is required.

Language Requirements

* Bilingual/Biliterate when applicable, proficiency in target language based on school or program need native or near native preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.

* Hold or be eligible for ParaPro Assessment issued by ETS required.

CAREER LADDER REQUIREMENTS

Qualification Requirements for Employment in Higher Grade as a New Hire or Transfer requires:

* Two (2) additional years continuous successful experience required.

* Achievement of Professional Certification or Certificate in Education, Associate's degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university or Completion of coursework or workshops leading towards professional certification required.

Eligibility for Consideration for Advancement from Lower Grade to Higher Grade requires:

* Two (2) years continuous successful experience in the position at the Lower Grade level.

* Mastery of all responsibilities and duties of the position.

* Achievement of Professional Certification, License or evidence of course completion in pursuit of such certification or license, if applicable.

* Evidence of completion of additional training that may be recommended by supervisor and/or participation in approved professional development programs or courses, approved in advance by the supervisor. Successful completion of a minimum of one professional development within the last two years is required. Successful completion of job specific professional developments identified on the job description, performance evaluations and/or the supervisor's documented recommendation are required.

* Achievement of identified goals as they relate to the needs of the district and as established by the supervior.

* Consistent maintenance of an effective and orderly work environment.

* Consistent compliance with general office procedures such as standards contained in the AACPS Employee Handbook; demonstration of discretion and excellent customer service; regular and punctual attendance; and building dress code, including wearing AACPS ID badge.

* Above Satisfactory overall job performance for the two most recent consecutive years of Performance Ratings.

* Letter of Recommendation written by the supervisor.

Additional Requirements for Advancement from Lower Grade to Higher Grade requires:
