Job description

Summary

Global Kids (GK) educates, inspires, and mobilizes youth to become global citizens who are positively engaged in the world and are prepared for their future. The GK-DC Assistant Director will manage core components of our Out-of-School-Time programs including college and career preparation initiatives, academic enrichment activities, social-emotional wellness, and service-learning opportunities. We are specifically looking for a candidate who is well-equipped to oversee global education and youth leadership programming, fostering a sense of global awareness and empowering young individuals to become leaders in their communities. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in leadership roles, demonstrating a track record of success in building and maintaining strong partnerships, team building and management, and facilitation and coordination of youth development programming. Experience working in and with DC public and public charter schools' settings is strongly desired. This position is in-person and requires full COVID-19 vaccination.

Responsibilities include:

Program Design & Implementation
Design programs and activities appropriate for high school students focusing on social-emotional health, STEM, global and local issues, service learning, and other content areas.
Collaborate with other GK-DC team members on developing yearly curriculum maps and program goals aligned with GK outcomes, and contractual obligations.
Coordinate and co-facilitate interactive, experiential workshops and activities for weekly after-school programs and ensure the implementation of quality programming.
Organize special events such as field trips, mini-conferences, family nights, and performances.
Link school-day to extended-day learning opportunities and after-school programming.
Occasional overnight and long-distance travel required (college trips, management retreats, conferences, and international travel).

Contract Management & Administrative Tasks
Oversee and conduct attendance outreach, recruitment, and retention services including attendance monitoring/data review, data entry, conferences and attendance incentive activities, and phone calls to comply with requirements.
Remain informed on current contract guidelines and contractor responsibilities by attending provider meetings and maintaining contact with the GK-DC Senior team and contract agency Program Managers.
Ensure all staff members are aware of, and follow, any changes and new developments to the program and contractual expectations guidelines and expectations.
Ensure all program and student records (digital and hard copy) are securely maintained, including but not limited to workshops, field trips, student attendance, and incentive forms.
Follow all fiscal procedures for ordering supplies and reporting on expenses as instructed by Global Kids' fiscal team.
Submit monthly program reports.

Partnerships
Help navigate, secure resources, and build/sustain relationships with participants, parents, school staff, other CBOs, and policymakers.
Partner with school staff (principals, faculty, guidance counselors, parent coordinators, and facilities staff) to ensure high-quality and safe programming.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with school leadership, teachers, parents, and students, especially through existing and ongoing meetings such as the Connected Schools initiative.
Ensure that all GK programs and youth participation are represented well during collaborative events with partners, funders, and other GK-DC supporters.
Attend relevant school events, including with partner CBOs, Parent-Teacher nights, sports, and special occasion events taking place during after-school hours or weekends.
Help provide youth and families with guidance and referrals for social services.

Supervision and Management
Manage all day-to-day operations across GK-DC program sites and ensure the implementation of quality programming.
Coach and manage the Youth Leadership Specialist team ensuring that program sites meet recruitment, enrollment, and retention of program participants and reach programmatic goals.
Provide overall support and supervision for Youth Leadership Specialists across three GK-DC Sites, staff, interns, and teaching artists.
Supervise daily management of tasks (delegate appropriately), facilitate weekly check-ins, conduct program/staff observations with immediate feedback, and conduct formal performance evaluations and individual check-ins.
Review and approve bi-weekly time sheets.
Collaborate with key members of Global Kids staff to recruit, screen, and hire full-time and part-time program staff.

Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in a related field and 5 years of professional leadership experience is required.
Experience managing government-funded programs such as United Way, Learn24, 21st CCLC, or related Out-of-School-Time.
Familiarity with National Department of Education and/or Public School District Department policies and protocols.
Demonstrated experience leading youth development and interactive learning programs.
Commitment to and understanding of working in culturally diverse settings and using antiracist pedagogical practices.
Experience supervising personnel and managing teams.
Experience working in school-based settings with knowledge about community organizing and student support services.
Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with stakeholders in support of programmatic outcomes.
Demonstrated knowledge of and passion for global issues, education, human rights, and social activism
Excellent facilitation, consensus-building, and interpersonal skills.
Strong work ethic, initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, and ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
Strong communication, writing, organizational, and technology skills.
Fluency in other languages is a plus.

This position is in person and requires full COVID-19 vaccination.

Salary/Benefits: This full-time exempt position has an annual salary of $60,000 - $65,000. GK also offers affordable medical benefits, dental, and life insurance as well as paid holidays, 12 vacation days (year 1), increasing thereafter based on years of employment, 3 personal days, and 8 sick days. Additionally, the GK offices are closed between Christmas and New Year's Day. GK staff also have access to retail discounts and other benefits through our Professional Employer Organization (PEO).
