Job Details:

The Department of Community Medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine is seeking a new faculty to join the Department beginning as soon as possible.

The Department of Community Medicine has fostered population health skills with M.D. students for over 30 years and has recently launched a Ph.D. program in Rural Health Sciences. Successful candidates will support School of Medicine initiatives on the Columbus campus, which was recently converted from a two-year clinical site to a full four-year medical school campus. In addition to serving as a core instructor in the school's innovative curriculum, the candidate will advise on technical elements of ongoing projects, develop novel approaches and initiatives to better healthcare, and support students through mentorship and research collaboration. The faculty member will teach in the M.D. program's Population Health & Medical Research course, Problem-based Learning course, and longitudinal Population Health course. They will also have the opportunity to teach in the Rural Health Sciences Ph.D. program.

Responsibilities:

* Teaching and mentoring medical students and graduate students.

* Supervising and overseeing didactic sessions during the Population Health & Medical Researcher course

* Supervising medical students on research projects and preceptor visits.

* Contributing to the development of research ideas and project proposals.

* Collaborating with investigators on the need for additional analyses and/or special methodologic needs.

* Publishing scholarly or informational works.

* Collaborating and working to strengthen relationships with researchers across the state.

* Participating with faculty investigators on committees to review concepts, proposals, and to continually improve research implementation and outcomes.

* Engaging in efforts to acquire extramural funding and support.

* Engaging with the medical school administration and with community organizations and agencies regarding service opportunities and research.

Qualifications:

* Hold an M.D. degree, Dr.PH. degree, or a Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Population Heath, Health Promotion, or a related field.

* Have experience teaching at the undergraduate medical education or graduate school level

The ideal candidate will have the following:

* Interest in teaching in a variety of educational environments, including small group, large group, and one-on-one settings.

* Familiarity and/or experience with rural health.

* Experience working as part of a team.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Ability to mentor students, design and supervise research projects, publish, and contribute to departmental efforts to obtain extramural funding.

* Experience presenting and communicating technical and statistical concepts to clinicians, policy makers, and lay audiences.

* Experience with either extramural grant support, research design, or analysis.

* Experience using qualitative and quantitative methods and with linking and working with large datasets.
