In this role, the

Staff Software Engineer

will:

Evaluate electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting research programs, applying knowledge of electricity and materials.

Perform routine operational tests and fault isolation on development systems and equipment to ensure conformance with design specifications.

Diagnose and isolate malfunctions down to component level.

Conduct defined engineering tests and collect data as assigned.

Confirm system's and components' capabilities by designing testing methods, testing properties.

Develop electrical products by studying customer requirements, researching, and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials.

Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components, soliciting observations from operators.

Assure product quality by designing electrical testing methods, testing finished products and system capabilities.

Prepare product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Frequent coordination with electrical engineers on design constraints and firmware engineers for PCB bring-up.

Basic Qualifications:

Must be a US Citizen and have a Secret clearance at a minimum.

Minimum education and experience are 14 years' experience with Bachelors in Science; 12 years' experience with Masters; 9 years' experience with PhD.

Knowledge of systems engineering, lifecycle design and development.

Knowledge of embedded firmware and hardware systems.

Basic Experience developing firmware in C for microcontrollers. Microchip PIC, Cypress, and/or NXP are preferred.

Basic Experience writing software in C, C++, and/or Python for both Windows and Linux, including scripts, to configure or control hardware.

Basic Experience working with drivers on Windows and Linux.

Experience with various computer/hardware interfaces such as USB 2.0/3.x/C, UART, I2C, SPI, JTAG, PCIe, SMBUS, and SATA.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidate with a TS/SCI clearance with/without Polygraph.

Knowledge of engineering development activities to include design, development, test, fabrication, modification, and/or assembly of electronic and electromechanical systems.

Experience in reverse engineering, an overall understanding of custom electrical engineering techniques used in the integration of complex electrical systems in tightly constrained spaces.

Experience in detailed schematic capture and high-density interconnect (HDI) multi-layer.

PCB layout for analog, power, and high-speed digital circuits -

KiCad is a plus .

Experience or training in basic Surface Mount Technology (SMT) soldering and assembly skills.

Experience with Yocto Linux, Docker images, ARM-based platforms, and troubleshooting embedded Linux platforms.

Experience with markdown language, VS code, and version control using GIT.

Salary Range:

$181,400 - $272,200

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
